That 20hp figure is a heavier more aerodynamic car than I was thinking. A '50s VW Type 1 (Beetle) with a 25hp engine could do 80mph flat and level. A Type 2 (Bus) could only hold 55mph, and weighed only slightly more. 75hp (the ubiquitous 1776cc displacement upgrade) got you a genuinely peppy little car. Better analogue for frontal area, still light weight, and super inefficient. Part of why I used a 40hp generator as an example; more than is likely needed to simply overcome drag and friction.

Point is, it's not that crazy an idea.
You are right. Its not crazy if you consider it to be a "get home" type device.

If we flip a few variables around and assume that it doesn't have to be seamless and "full power" it would work.

A 40 hp generator would burn about 5 gallons per hour running flat out. So if we use the BMW I3 range extender as an example. This is 38 hp and weighs between 200 and 400 lbs. So lets say 300 lbs. If you include a 5 gal fuel tank you are at a total system weight of lets say 400 lbs.

Based on this example of a generator with 60 hp making 40kw, its reasonable to assume that this little power unit makes. 38 x 40 / 60 = 25 kWh of power.

Based on my math above, the truck would need somewhere near 40 kWh of power to run at 60 mph.

So as a "limp home" type option this would probably get you 45 mph. And if you stopped for a bit of time to let it charge the battery it could run faster for shorter periods.

As long as expectations are set with buyers this would work great. The HUUGGGEE difference between this and electric is that even if you have to stop for gas every hour, it only takes 5 minutes to gas up and there is a gas station every few miles in 99% of the country.

On the 2022 Wrangler you have to get half doors to get the proximity keyless entry. It was added to the build and price for the Gladiator a few months ago an you can add it to any trim level. Whether this is a glitch or not I'm not sure. Maybe someone will chime in with their success or failure trying to actually order with it.
I just ordered a MY2022 Sport S through Gupton. Daniel could not add proximity entry without the dual door group but the proximity entry is listed as included on the tech group so I think it'll be included.

Hyundai has one too.

And it actually started back in 2014 with Anvil. What an awesome color.

I had a 2011/12 Toyota Scion "cement grey" ... seems all the newer greys and pastels started around then.

Sarge should probably be the one to go. I don't personally like Snazzberry much but it's only been around a short time. I've been told StingGray is the bestselling color. If that's true it probably makes sense to start thinking of it as the 'normal' gray color and instead wonder whether Granite Crystal should go away.

Mojito was never offered on Gladiator, right? In a vacuum I'd say this is a likely option, but it would be a re-run for JL so to me that reduces the probability quite a bit.

Tuscadero seems the most likely next 'bright' color.
As a guy who loves the Sarge Green color I must disagree. Glad I can order it on my '22 Mojave.
MEE TOO !! I have to admit, I'm a Sarge fan boy.... being retired military it makes sense to me. Do you know how long Sarge has been offered by Jeep ? I don't see it very often where I live... Mostly grey, white, black and snazzberry .

I held out for a 22 hoping for sarge to still be available or to see if gator, gobi or something similar was offered. Like you said "glad you can order it on the 22".

The point is that those little generators don't have to run flat out, the are like industrial engines in that they run at a single speed at which they are designed to be most efficient. Mazda is supposed to be using a rotary as a range extender in their upcoming hybrid (I guess it would be a hybrid rather than an EV if it has a range extended by design). Rotaries are (fun as hell) notoriously thirsty and dirty, but if you can set it up to run at a single RPM at which it's maximally efficient... Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see, but there are a number of reasons it can be assumed to be much more efficient than a piston equivalent.

Process of elimination. Colors rotate, and generally older non-permanent colors will leave before newer ones. That’s not an aesthetic judgement against Sarge :)
Yeah we good.... I just don't/didn't know The history of sarge green and how long it had been available and on what models. I like the greens and the browns and actually was worried about sarge green getting discontinued for the 22 altogether... It was mentioned it had been around since 2016 and I did not realize that because in my area you do not see that color very often.
