Should be available now like other auto makers, its frustrating. I hate having cords
Is this the kind of thing that will be available to olders JTs as a software update? Or is this a hardware swap...?

Since I’m technologically challenged, Is CarPlay different from Bluetooth? I play my music and map directions by selecting source/iPhone On my 5” radio without plugging in.

With the basic electronics already having plenty of issues, count me out for even more complex electronics and the added weight. Go all EV or none imo.

My neighbor has a 4xe rubicon wrangler waiting for deliver. It's built they said, but they are finalizing transport and delivery instructions. I'll see it first hand driving and wheeling.

Was going to hold out for the JT 4Xe but the wrangler 4Xe towing capacity is exactly that of my wife's 4-pot Mazda CX-9 at 3,500 lbs. I kind of wish they approached this like Ford did on their Powerboost. That F-150 hybrid has the 3.5 twin-turbo 6 in it. Yeah, not a fan of the F150 but from an architecture standpoint, it seems super solid.
The Tesla Cybertruck has a 14,000 lb towing capacity!!!

At least it will. Maybe. In 2 years.
Your right but I gotta tell ya if I was in the market for a full size and gonna spend 70k I would seriously be considering the Cybertruck. And before last week until looking at the website I wouldn't have been caught dead in a Tesla.

The wrangler towing is 3500 lbs because it’s a wrangler. Put that 4xe in a JT and you’ll be looking at the 6500 lb range.

Hardware. If the phone supports wireless CarPlay or Android Auto the head unit would also need to support it through hardware. If the hardware were already there, it would be switched on. Very few OEM options are setup for wireless. And while wireless is nice, you'd still need some sort of charging option for longer trips. So as much as I'd like the option, wired works fine and I just drop the phone in the console.

CarPlay and Android Auto are mirrored experiences. They have their own unique user interface. When you plug in via USB you launch CarPlay or AA. This gives you access to Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, your music service (Spotify or Apple Music), and any additional apps that have support. It also provides access to messages so they can be read to you and you can reply with voice to text.

I stay almost exclusively in the Android Auto interface. Bluetooth is fine for music streaming, but the ability to run Waze is what I really want.

The 5" infotainment system is Uconnect 3, and doesn't support Android Auto/CarPlay, anyway.
I like CarPlay for navigation because the maps show on the 7" or 8.4" display. With Bluetooth navigation, you just get the announcements: if you want to see the map you need to look at your phone.

Thanks Kevin, now I get it. I still have a pager/beeper in a drawer somewhere. At my age we used to pass notes in class and use a single rotary telephone.??

Lots of 4xe discussion here.

We hashed this out in another thread that I can't find now, but basically the 4xe adds significant weight to an already overweight vehicle. In order to increase payload and towing capacity on a 4xe version of the Gladiator, they would have to increase the GVWR quite a bit, and they already did that to accommodate the EcoDiesel somewhat but if they increase it again it'll be knocking on the door of the Ram 1500 GVWR and I can't see that happening. What is more likely is that you'll see the 4xe version of JT come with a much lower payload and towing rating.

Combine that with fears of future parts availability, cost of repairs, being a guinea pig for a new product, up front cost, etc....and I would say that most consumers will shy away from it. Honestly I don't even know if there'll be a business case to keep the JT 4xe on the market becaust JT sales are already a bit lower than they hoped for.

Which will probably cause me to sell my Gator JTR.
I thought the announcement was for the JT4xE to be a 2023 model? I will trade in my JT if the 4xe gets close to initially advertised 50mi on the battery, as the JL has been nuked to 25mi now.
