People have been brainwashed into thinking that if they don't burn fuel, they're saving money.

What they fail to realize is that the overnight charge cost them $0.10 to $0.20 cents per kWh, depending on where they live, and the 4xe gets 1 mile per kWh, so effectively it costs on average $0.15 cents per mile to drive on pure electric mode....and guess what? The diesel version also costs <$0.15 cents per mile to drive.

As far as the earlier comments on GVWR...they already stamp the Rubicon EcoDiesel with a 6450 GVWR which is the highest in the class. To do a 4xe they'd have two choices: stamp it with a 7,000+ lb. GVWR or neuter the payload capacity to just <200 lbs. Neither are likely. So that's why I say it'll be interesting to see IF they do a 4xe and if so, HOW.
I wouldnt be shocked if it gets upp'd to maintain payload. Electric cars all have significantly higher GVWR's than comparables because of the batteries. Expect all GVWR's to increase on trucks in the coming years, the F150 is around 350 higher for every gvwr on its hybrid for example.

Also yes electricity costs money but a lot of folks are charging for free either by braking or using the public ports. If you charged only at home you'd end up about the same as diesel, but regenerative and free charging can and does bring those costs way down.

Yup. Add in that some people have solar or other inexpensive ways to charge the battery where as fuel cost are pretty much out of your control.

I’m just going to say this…the 5.7 is nothing compared to the 6.4

I had a 6.4 in my Challenger, that engine is insane and the most fun I’ve ever had driving a fast car. Doesn’t matter the RPM, the car just goes hard. I’d be happy with the 5.7L in the Mojave as it’s not a bad engine at all and would be a huge improvement over the 3.6L. But the 6.4 is so much better, the experience between the 2 would be night and day. 80-85 lb-ft torque and 100 horsepower is a lot.
No doubt you're 100% right - but I would actually pay for the 5.7. A 6.4 would probably be too much money for comfort. Spending 50-60K on something already strikes me as excessive.

ETA: Can someone with a 'gram give us a countdown estimate? I think we've got like 75 minutes left from my rough math last night?

It’s 2:15 mountain.

Tick tick tick...

This is me joking around mainly with myself. Several up-thread have circled the show as an announcement window. So many potential announcement times have come and gone that I'm on principle being skeptical of all possibilities. Of course eventually one of the guesses will be right and so it was the Texas Show one then I tip my hat.
I'm the one that identified the Texas show as the next viable window, but that was based solely on Stellantis's "virtual auto show" website, so I can't really take much credit. I thought I missed a leak or something from the people setting it up. Stellantis says the show started yesterday, but the show's own site (linked to on the same page) says Friday.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be a non-JT related announcement come 4:15est and we’ll all still be wondering what the 2022MY will bring as it relates to the JT.

edit: based on post 999… it appears that my suspicion is wrong

Jeep has a history of debuting Grand Cherokees at the NAIAS in Detroit. The full NAIAS isn't happening this year--there's this Motor Bella stand-in. Today was supposed to be Industry Day for Motor Bella, but it's been cancelled.

Many automakers, FCA included, have used the Texas State Fair to introduce new trucks or special editions of trucks, and it opens to the public on Friday.

I don't have a clue what to guess. Thankfully the guessing will be over in about 45 minutes.

Can someone explain to me the thrill of 4xe, unless your just super into saving the earth and like electric vehicles? What are the other pros? I personally like my standard engines.
I don't really care about "saving the earth"

What I like is that it makes a lot of HP and a TON of torque.

It makes the same torque as the 392. Which means that in day to day driving its going to feel fast. Where the normal Gladiator feels a bit underpowered.

And its all FREE!!

With the $7500 federal credit and a roughly 1500 credit from my state, this costs less than a Pentastar.

Notice I haven't said a thing about fuel economy yet?

Oh yeah, and if you want to bother plugging it in, which I may or may not do, you can get more than 20 miles all electric. Which around where I live, is plenty for a day's commute.

If you strip the 4xe badges off it and never plug it in, all it would seem to be is a fast Gladiator that gets good fuel economy. Simple.

p.s. With the Government tightening down on the noose that is CAFE, it is far more likely that performance variants will have hybrid powertrains than normal V8s.

The 392 works because they are charging a HUUUGGEEE premium for it. But if they ever came out with a 5.7L variant for an extra $3000, they would sell so many that it would drag their Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) into the toilet.
