Just came back from Ocracoke. Like stated earlier, momentum is your friend. Easy on the accelerator try to never hit the brakes. Assuming those tires are 12.50 or wider you shouldnt have any real trouble, certainly wouldnt think airing down any lower than 25 is necessary. I am running 35 x 11.50 on stock wheels and aired down to the low 20's and had no issues at all. The trickiest part is usually just getting on so make sure there is not a knuckle head too close in front of you that is gonna stop right in the deep stuff. The only really deep stuff I have seen is on the point at Hatteras.

We were going back from Duck with out the freedom panels and doors.......in the rain; it felt amazing; almost like my Army days in a stripped M998 HMMV going to the field

I had 305/45r22's on a Duramax diesel once upon a time. I had zero issues airing them down and pulling a 15,000lb toy hauler out onto the dunes. This was a total street tire, IIRC it was a Toyo Proxes STII. I even went and mobbed it around in the dunes some Side hilling and a little trail action (no problems). I was kinda expecting some as that tire and wheel combo had very little meat to it, but I had to know how it would do. Pretty sure I was down to 12-15 psi. Getting around in the sand is all about airing down until you see that perfect bulge to the tires sidewall.

Well got her out there today, all I can say is wow totally amazed on how it performed. Aired down to only 29psi and I almost think I could’ve been fine not even airing down. It was great will have to do it again with doors off. Sorry Minty I figured I’d just see you out there pulled up to a green wrangler but it wasn’t you

Last year, high tide was almost to that house. It was wide enough for one vehicle. That beach changes every year.

Airing down also softens the bumps, so that’s half the reason I air down. I usually run 15 and it smooths out the washboards.

Love this thread! Playing in the sand is a nice change from trails and the rocky stuff. Been to Oceano dunes a couple times in recent pst. Got 13.5 wide tread I’d say not much need to air down but can say it makes a difference. 20 is good but last time think I went 15. Nobody here mentioned how much sand gets everywhere. Having just the top off had sand in my everything.

Minty sorry we missed each other but I did appreciate the offer for the pass. We had other family here as well it wouldn’t be fair for us to just ditch ‘em . But I did drive on there a few more times and it was awesome Can’t wait to come back, good thing we’re from VB only a couple hours away. Here a little video
