Gotcha.... I was getting my info from the dashboard on the Jeep/Mopar app. It says 10k and mentions nothing about replacing for the 20k service.

I really need to look at this fuel filter interval because it’s an expensive part of the service.

My selling dealer gives one free oil change and tire rotation, aside from my free Jeep Wave maintenance benefits, which I’m getting this week at around 8k miles before heading out on another road trip.

So maybe I won’t be getting off totally free if get the right stuff done? I know damn well they’re not gonna give me a free fuel filter. Or, at least, I’ll be stunned if they do.

I’ve checked the oil level twice and so far it doesn’t appear to have any consumption, so I’m happy with that. I really despise having an oil burner that’s an oil burner.

If you read in the manual. It states 20,000 miles for the fuel filter. Unless you live one one of the 5 or 6 states listed. Then it's 10,000 miles.
Rusty, do you have the manual handy? If so, can you please list the states that require the 10k interval for the fuel filter?

That would be really helpful in the scheme of this wider conversation about dying, defective injector pumps.

i expecting it to have way better lubricity due to not being ULSD complaint. edit* my homemade diesel that identifies as ULSD*
The guy I was buying my moonshine from. Started to make his own biodiesel a few years back. One day..........his equipment in the garage caught on fire and burnt the garage down. The local fire dept showed up to put the fire out,. But they were late. Fire chief told him that he has to call the feds in because he had over 1,500 gals of bio on hand. The feds showed up and asked a BUNCH of questions. He thought he was going to jail. The feds wanted to know why he had so much bio. He told them that everything he owns is diesel, and that he farms too. (he's never farmed a day in his life) They did nothing to him. but gave him a warning on how much bio he was to have. Good thing all of his whiskey making equipment got destroyed, and the garage wasn't rebuilt yet. Otherwise he would have been in jail.

Here you go.

"Under normal conditions the diesel fuel filter should be replaced every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) (every other oil change). If the vehicle is being used in severe operating conditions, or in certain geographical areas of the country (Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska) due to fuel cleanliness issues, it’s recommended to replace the fuel filter every 10,000 miles (16,000 km)"

Oh, crap! I’ve been driving and buying fuel in five of the ten sh$t fuel states. How lovely.

Thanks for the information! Even though it’s going to cost me a couple of Benjamins.

Does anyone know if replacing this pump requires the winch, bumper and grill to come off? There’s zero chance I’m going to have a dealer take off my bumper which means either I take it all off and drive my illegal Jeep up to the dealer with its frame ends sticking out or have it towed in once I find a new competent dealer.
Hmmm…. Didn’t even think about that…

Similar to a muscle or sports car owner, you really gotta love a diesel to be willing to overlook all the painful nuances: cost of the engine and transmission, a higher fuel price, the added cost of DEF, more expensive services, additional expensive filters to change, and, of course, lots of recalls to tolerate. Deep exhale…true love.

What can I say? The blissful sounds reminds of a military Hummer chugging across the desert.

Mine reminds me of a little old Kubota tractor, and other than lack of engine braking off road (GDE, apparently can fix that), it drives like my 4.0 TJ, except with way more get up and go. It just chugs up the trails. I would actually have been happy with a 4 banger diesel.

I know, right. Why couldn’t they have just lopped off two cylinders from an inline-six Cummins and ran with that?

But you touch on an interesting point. On a day to day basis, I literally chug around in this thing. Slowly accelerating from stops, cruising at lower speeds, never really going over 45 mph max most days. But it is capable of really coming to life when you mash down on the accelerator in this thing. A bit of a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde thing going on beneath the hood. That aspect of the 3.0L diesel reminds of the 2008 Mercedes 320 Bluetec sedan that I owned, That thing was downright fast for a diesel sedan.

When I first got my JT. I told my one buddy that it sounds like an old farm tractor and he agreed.

No recall on mine. Not sure of mfg date (will have to check later) but I picked it up at the dealer in May of this year and it had just gotten off the train, so probably some time this spring.
