I’m looking at a new gladiator. Can’t afford a Rubicon or a Mojave and having a hard time finding a MaxTow equipped the way I want. How bad would 34 inch tires (285/75r17) be on 3.73s? I’d prefer to have 4.10s but it’s looking like I would have to order one equipped the way I want

You won't notice make much difference.

I have 35-inch tires on my Wrangler Sahara. The 8-speed compensates nicely.

If you recalibrate your speedometer for larger tires with a programmer, it will adjust the transmission's shift points.

I am running 285/75r17 Toyo Open Country at3's on my Sport S with 3.73s. I noticed a slight decrease in pep, but it is not bad at all. I am very happy with it. I do recommend recalibrating the speedometer using jscan or tazer etc.

Coming from 3.73’s and I don’t climb any rocks or pull a heavy load, I’d wait for a 4.10. Your dealer should be able to find one for sure “you’d think”

I went to buy a Max tow, it sold prior to me getting there ... I bought the only stingrey on the lot out of 30 JT’s.

I wish I’d waited for another Max tow the way I wanted it.

This is referring to running stock tires, rubicon take off and then 315/70-17

I ended up spending 2400 to have 4.56 installed

Not sure why they ever put 3.73 in a truck along with the 6cyl penstar.

I like the engine it’s fine for me, I love the auto tranny... it’s so much better than the tranny in a canyon diesel.... but the gearing...I should have waited.

Good luck with your choice. But i certainly wished they had the diesel out when I was looking or I had just waited for the Max tow I wanted.

I didn’t care about the progressive springs... I wanted the 4.10’s. I knew I could go to 34-35’s and be fine.

I have a Sport S (not a max tow package) and I'm looking at getting those same tires.

Did you have any rubbing? Did you take off the plastic trim connecting the bumper to the fenders?

Thanks!

I put the tires on and installed a leveling kit the next day, so I cannot say for certain that it would not have rubbed at stock height, but I did drive it about 50 miles before putting the leveling kit on and it did not rub any during those 50 miles. I also have the painted fender flares so mine does not have the plastic trim connecting the bumpers to the fenders. I really love the tires though. I think they look good, and they drive great.

Awesome, thanks for the response! I'm thinking I'll be okay, or at worst it'll take minimal effort to make it right.

I have 35s on my Sport S and after a speedo recalibration I don't notice much of a difference at all. I also go wheeling pretty much every other weekend and off-road performance is great

You'll be fine

Can you post a couple pics please? Nice side shot and maybe from the front?
I’m considering the exact same tires.

Thank you!! Those look like they fit well.
In the final pic, is there something in the bed or does the leveling kit cause a little “nose high”?

I just put 35’s on my overland (3.73) was worried it would be sluggish ZERO ISSUES!! I drove about 30 miles before recalibrating the computer and it was still fine once I recalibrated for 35” it was even better.. still got tons of pep and no lag

I have had from day one 285/75/17 Yokohama Geolander M/T. I get about 16-17 mpg in town and 18-20 on the highway. I have the 3.73 gears. I think the big question for your question is what you plan to do with it later. Are you going to add larger tires? Are 4.10s going to be the final gear ratio you stick with? I think if you plan to go bigger than 35s or tow a lot and will change your gears later anyway then get the non-max tow and do the gears later. No reason to pay for it twice.

No problem! There was nothing in the bed in the last picture. It is hard to tell, but my driveway has a slight slant towards the road that makes it look more nose high than it really is. I put the Rough Country 2.5" leveling kit on it, and I may end up putting a .75" spacer in the rear to bring the back up a little. If I measure from the bottom of the Jeep in the front and back it is completely level, but the rear fender flares have a smaller gap than the front, and I believe that makes it look nose high. This picture was taken on a more level surface.

Thanks for answering. Yep it’s definitely the driveway. Looks much more level there.

Edit—-you did the 2.5 leveling? Usually when I hear leveling kit for the JT my mind goes to the Teraflex 1.5.
