4WD Low issue

Have a 2020 Gladoator Sport S with 37s and 4.10 gears. When in 4WD low and in deep sand, I'm having an issue. The engine bogs down like either the computer is making electronic counter measures or the brakes are applying like how some traction control systems work. Maybe both. What ever the issue is, it prevents the rpm from going over 2.5K, maybe less.

What ever it is, it's bad. Only seems to happen in sand but I haven't had the opportunity to see if it happens in deep mud.

Also, doesn't seem to do it in 2wd of 4WDH.

Have you tried shifting manually? What gear is it in when bogging down?

Is the tire size changed in the computer? Do you have traction control off?

I think it might be the abs system. You should be able to override it by shifting manually. It doesnt like to let the wheels spin so if you want them to, shift manually...

Traction control is automatically turned off in 4LO isn't it? At least on our JLUR and my mojave it is.

I have not updated the 37s over the 35s that had been updated. That "might" be it. Will look into that.

Found out the issue. These have a system that is part of the TCS called Brake Limiting Differential (BLD). Like the TCS, it uses the braking sytem but in this mode, it brakes the wheel losing traction so power goes to the wheel with traction. Poor mans locker front and back,,, sorta.

Works a treat in rocks and ruts. What if all the wheels have little traction? Well, you get posts like mine!

When you shift into 4wd Low, TCS defaults to off. The light on the button comes on and the dash TCS off comes on. But,,,,, while the TCS might well be defeated, the BLD is still active! On other forums I was told to press the TCS down for at least 10secs and this would turn off the BLD.

It does but to tell you the truth, the automatic transmiision then freaks out shifting at roughly 3K rpm often shifting up to the point where it bogs down due to low rpm. So, best advise for deep, fine sand,,,, shift into 4wd Low, press TCS button down for at least 10secs then place trans shifter into manual mode. I found 2nd or 3rd gear at around 4K gave me the best results in the deep, fine sand I was in pretty much floating the tires up un top even though I was at full air pressure.

Long post but I'm sure not everyone knows about this.

I have Offroad + on my JT Mojave, which sort of automatically disables all the safety controls mentioned without me physically doing some traction control rain dance. I still hold the TCS button down for 10 seconds just for general purpose.

So to caveat on what @Judd did to get his to turn off, I will refer to my wife's JLUW. 4LO, hold down TCS Button for 10 seconds, you will hear a chime, manual shift for the transmission. This process will get you into old school 4x4 mode, for lack of a better term. The BLD is a determent anywhere you need RPM's.
