Additional Rear Lighting

Hey all,

Looking for some suggestions and creative solutions to adding auxiliary lighting to the rear of the Gladiator Mojave. Living in the SW, we can end up in some incredible dark and treacherous places pretty quickly outside of city limits. I am looking to add more lighting than swapping in the popular back up lighting upgrades and and would like it to be switchable with the dash aux switches. In the event I actually need more light to back up I can just switch it on temporarily. I have no plans to add a bed rack, so that rules out a light location.

I was thinking an ultra-slim bar that is no lower than the hitch or a mount below the license plate. What do you creative minds out there have?

I bought a set of these. They attach to the bottom bolts of the rear bumper. They hang just below the bumper and provide three mounting holes on each side. I put on a set of KC Backup Lights.

Here's a few pictures. These are the lights I put on. When I bought them, they were only $145. At the time, the options were very limited. The brackets were easy, just slid them on the existing bolt and added another nut and washer to hold them in place.

Vision X, 4000 Lumen, bolt on, wires to the factory accessory switches.

So easy, even I could do it.

Adjusted up a bit since this pic taken.

I added some 3M reflective tape to the plates.

If you don’t have the 2nd tow hook, you can cut in any number of surface mount lights.

I got head light revolution reverse led replacements for my halogen reverse lights. Literally night and day difference and no mod work required

I also made these after seeing a similar idea on this forum. I use them for backing my travel trailer when my timing sucks and its dark.

I have the factory LED package, not certain how much swapping in new LEDs would improve the current lighting. I may just have to suck it up and go with Vision X.

Where abouts in DE are you? I have family in Dover, Millsboro and Laurel.

check out my install on youtube.com/exfiloffroad there are some great pod lights that i installed from diode dynamics, they go in the bumper and you could wire them to reverse through the tow wiring harness (no splicing needed), or wire them to a switch if you prefer. Not to mention you have several color options. I went with the red and white for brake/blinker and reverse, or you could go with just white or amber.

I did not need a full rack, but wanted a place to mount scene lighting. I picked up the DV8 chase rack which comes with side lights and added the rear-facing 10" Baja Designs S8 Work/Scene light bar. All 3 lights are wired to the #4 OEM auxiliary switch. The 6350-lumen BD light projects a very smooth and bright 120-degree circle more than 40 feet to the rear.
