I ordered a Tazer yesterday. Today I learned that the people at ZAutomotive or whatever that company is called, are idiots.

Long story short... I travel a lot, since I work remotely. So when I order stuff I have different shipping and billing addresses. In three years of this it's only been a problem twice.. the first time a month ago, and now trying to get a Tazer.

Thing is, I chose to use Affirm to pay for the Tazer rather than wait two weeks for payday (I'd pay it off right away). I've used Affirm for years and they're great (if expensive if you don't pay it off quickly).

Well, these idiots refused my order because of the two different addresses, even though I chose Affirm which makes the billing address absolutely irrelevant. If I was using a credit card, I could kinda understand it. But I wasn't.

I tried to explain this to them.. the guy "Scott" who was answering emails flat refused to understand and was demanding I provide photo ID or some other proof of my billing address. I explained to him that I will NOT due that due to identity theft issues. I also tried multiple times to explain that the billing address was irrelevant, etc, etc. That was completely lost on him.

Finally I just said F it, cancel the damn order. I don't need your piece of crap device. Yes, I could place the order again using just the ship-to address, but after this "customer service" experience, I am not confident that they would be of any help if I had issues with the device. So I won't be buying anything from them ever.

I have zero patience for that level of stupidity. So... what are the alternatives to this thing? I thought it'd be cool to have a front camera, but I don't really need it. What I wanted it for was for tire size adjustment and auto start-top disable. I don't much care about the rest of its features.

Thanks.

Depends who you ask
While not really an alternative there are a couple used ones in marketplace also the big river offers them.
TBH I don't think there is an alternative that has the same functions.

SmartStopStart is a forum sponsor. They have a device that plugs in under the dash to take care of ESS. The other changes can be made using Jscan or AlfaOBD. There is a Security Gateway extension cable that ZAutomotive sells that I would recommend getting. I don't know if there are any clones available yet on Amazon or from other vendors.

I don't want to buy ANYTHING from ZAutomotive, so I will just wait for there to be an alternative. But good idea about AlfaOBD for when other cables are available. Thanks.

JScan works amazing. And you don't have anything left plugged in to your car. And its less money...

I have different shipping/billing addresses and have never had an issue.

That being said, if you think the email guy is an idiot you should see their social media guy.

Not related to your Zscan issue but more about their request for photo idea. I just had two companies recently tell me they needed me to send them photo ID (Drivers License or other Government ID) and some other information for them to discuss things further with me. I told them sorry that will not happen and we can cease business if you can't find a work around.

What is the lifetime unlock?

I may get one of these and leave it plugged in when I go to the dealer to repair a locker sensor.

I've got a bad locker sensor in the rear diff on my JLUR and I put the ZAuto bypass on it, which works fine. But I still would want it fixed. So I took it to the dealer (I have a Maxcare lifetime warranty) but had unmarried the Tazer. They want 300 bucks to reprogram the speedo and gearing before they'll replace the sensor. So for now, I'm running the ZAuto bypass. Like I said, it works great, but I really want the Jeep to be 100% right, without a bandaid.

Been using alfaOBD on a few Rams and now Gladiator . Does things dealer can't plus if it can do on a Gladiator what it does to a Ram it will do more than most people ask of it .

No alternatives if you want to use the live functions like trail turn assist, sway kill, winch mode, etc.

If you only need to program, use JSCAN, its just better anways. I actually use both, jscan to set tire size, gears, read and reset codes, change option codes, as it stays through everything but a dealer pcm flash. The tazer I use for the live functions listed above.

Tell me about the live functions, please. I don't know what most of those are.

here are the extension cables I use to keep my JScan from being too much of a pain...
You still need the Bypass cable; this just makes it easier to get under the dash.

@Rob.G

This is a less expensive clone of the ZAutomotive extension cable. It saves your fingers from getting banged up repeatedly. Plug it into the security gateway so it hangs down below the dash. The factory cables then connect to this, and are easy to unplug to connect the OBD device needed for Jscan (or AlfaOBD).
