Side door struts. Ones that came with my canopy camper are 40lbs ea, I've added a molle panel and 2ea Fiskars axe's and a folding old military shovel. As expect it hold it part way open. So I can replace with 2ea 60 or 80 lbs struts or?. What have you found lbs wise that works for this load.

Thanks.

Many changes since I last posted on the progress ..RK links, Clayton 3.5" springs, 4ea ADS 3 tube bypass shocks and bumps, Anti rock rear. Canopy Camper from a Toyota that I installed myself and modded the Goose gear cabinets to better fit. Goose gear seat delete, Power tank and Halon installed. 400w solar, 3000w inverter all redarc including management system. 230ah Litime. Whale propane heater and many miscellaneous mods. Still have to make new doors and cabinet tops, run water lines and propane lines etc.. I had the filter laying around so why not.

A while ago I saw a video of a guy who mounted Maxtrax on the side windows and he linked to these:

[removed link, see post below]

I'm not using them, so I can't comment. I believe the name was Hudson Z Roamer or so. I'll check whether I can find the video.

Actually, the link seems to be from somewhere else, here's the recommendation:

Big enough for two people to sit comfortably at a table and eat or just relax. Set up is about 3 or 4 minutes for one person.
Nice! Thats going to be great to have. Whats your strategy for stowing it? Is it fairly compact?

It's not super small, but a relatively soft package. Next to a two gallon Rotopax:

The bag can be compressed A LOT. We'll probably just put it on top of the storage boxes in the truck (back seat area) and grab it when needed.

There are two tarp poles in that bag as well, one to hold the "labyrinth entry" straight and one to support the awning if neccessary. Generally only one is needed.

Weight is about 2.5kg for everything including the bag and a bag for the two poles.

Hey folks, I'm thinking of having some Rotopax lid inserts cut from aluminum to use with a fuel pickup like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPX1QHH7

I have cut a simple one by hand for my heater install, but all I had was 0.125" aluminum and it's a tiny bit thick for the Rotopax seals. Planning on getting some in 0.1" or even 0.8" which should work fine. With a 6.5mm hole in the middle to install the pickup tube.

I'm likely just ordering 5 or 6 since otherwise the cost will get adjusted to minimum order of around $30.

Anybody interested in one or two?

They'd look roughly like this, just thinner and with a 6.5mm hole in the center already done (Rotopax cap and seal not included):

Cost would be around $5 to $6 each if I order five or six plus whatever shipping to you.

I'll likely use it with one of these added to the canister:

https://www.amazon.com/Magicfour-Replacement-Water-Faster-Flowing/dp/B08747LWC4

This means I can vent the canister when using the heater without constantly having the standard lip open a bit.

I'm actually now looking whether I can make it all fit into the aluminum part and the original spout opening of the Rotopax so I don't have to drill the can. So this might (!!!) be even easier if I can make this work. Still playing around and ordering some parts to try out.

A few questions that may be scattered across this thread.

1)For those of you with an Alu Cab canopy camper, how many of you recommend and use the Shadow Awning? I am strongly considering a Mod Cap with tent along with the awning.

Not a huge fan. Sags and has to be constantly maintained and adjusted. Yes, you can buy the tie downs. Getting tired having to buy another add on.

2) Will my stock suspension be an issue? I am looking at a minimal build for now, no accessories yet (Except for the possible awning as mentioned above and a back up camera relocation kit) ...just a good cover and place to sleep while I am on my Alaska trip.

Bigger springs, bigger sway bar, sumo springs, then new shocks…now drives great!

3) How long did your install take?

Poor and patient. Liitle here. Little there.

4). Any suggestions / recommendations welcome.

Just do it. Wife and I lived out of ours for a year. Best decision and experience ever!

I have a rebel offroad halo rack that will fit gladiator with canopy camper, and kc light bar, still in box, after major engine issues because of supercharger, going in different direction. Because it is a custom piece cannot return. Paid over $2300 ( I know don't rub it in....) willing to part with and take loss, you pay shipping...hope this is ok to post this here, will see if there is a for sale tab on forums, but thought bc it was custom for canopy camper give it a shot. Same rack as waltzing matilda on IG if you follow. see posted pics below. contact me if interested 781-983-6228 Rick, thanks

I talked with the company that makes the struts in South Africa because I was looking at ordering stronger ones for the bed. The struts are 400N and can be re-gased to 650N if you can find a company to do it. Be careful going to stiff for the side doors, I have seen pics of one that tore the metal where the hinge is mounted because it was too strong
