Ha! We are still rocking an 8 track player on our old work truck. Sadly I’m old and actually remember when a record player was an option in cars

Work has traumatized me with the amount of fiber cuts we see, lol. I don't trust fiber.
I always carry a few feet of fiber cable in the Jeep. If I get stranded, I will bury it, and wait for the backhoe to show up to cut it.

As time goes on I see them offering public IP addresses at some point. I saw public IPv6 will be something down the road for sure.
Musk said no statics, but that was in the IPv4 context. If v6 ever actually goes anywhere, I can see that being added. We seem to have solved the IPv4 problem and nobody seems to care any more. The sky is no longer falling.

I checked into skynet - oops, skylink, and found it won't be available here for a good year.
Apparently USCC has done some more updates here as we've not had any drops in weeks if not longer. The biggest thing is the restriction to 54gig/month. Speeds not great but can stream music and anything on YT fine.
So until Musk gets his stuff out of beta and actually available, and not vaporware here, maybe we'll get by.
When his system is real and available, maybe it will be something to look at again, but now, even if I thought the price was good - can't do it for a year. (and the tech journals are saying they keep pushing things back further- maybe they've been TOO successful?? No more capacity yet??)

The sky isn't falling because IPv6 is being used behind the scenes and some have found replacing routers and other old equipment too expensive so have "worked around" the fact we've run out of public IPv4 addresses.
The ISP I use in the UK for our forums uses IPv6.
T-Mobile USA has more than 90% of its traffic going over IPv6, with Verizon Wireless close behind at 82.25%.
Roughly 25% of the US has adopted IPv6

I was curious myself and found this chart - seems foreign countries have been quicker to adopt - while US companies gripe about equipment expenses (no shock, we had massive trouble with Mediacom while I worked for the state - equipment over-loaded, cards over-subscribed, constant failures)

Anyone recall the early car radios - pre-transistor, where there was a "vibrator" in them to allow transforming the DC power of the car's system into the voltages needed by the tubes? That piece failed, radio stopped working.

Not familiar with the radio part but I definitely know about how in USA we set back and lag behind Europe and Asia on moving to new technology especially cellular phone and E-net. I was in Germany in 95-98 most of my German friends had moved to cellphone vs home phone lines my computer modem was limited to 28.8 kb here but there I was running past 56 kb speeds. I got back to USA to see my computer speed being slow and lagging. The limit on computer modem speed I know why but no need to air it here.

Watch out - a NEW cassette has been released! Get those old tape players out of the closet -

A collectible cassette tape of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio is being released today.

In September, record label Craft Recordings announced on social media that it was releasing the collectible cassette tape. According to the announcement, it is the soundtrack’s first return to cassette in 30 years.

The silver-colored, $12.99 cassette tape will be shipped on Friday to people who pre-ordered the tape, according to the product page.
According to the website, only 5,000 cassette tapes are being released.

Lol. the work memes about the north american fiber-seeking backhoe and its migratory patterns and mating seasons....

It looks like starlink is at least public IPv6 right now. that is workable for sure.

Hey, thanks for that info. With over 300 trillion trillion trillion IPv6 addresses available, it seems that static addressing v6 will never be a problem for this solar system for the rest of the life of the universe.

…sure maybe a fair percentage of people have moved on from holding media in their own hands, but I’m telling you that I like my cd’s on road trips and I‘d bet dollars to donuts that I’m not the only guy who bought one and then spent a second or few looking for the cd player to only realize it was GONE! I‘ll note that I am actually a somewhat techy guy and I’ve had music on my phones, but after past issues, I just like to keep it simple. Oh, and if it was a waterproof thing, then Jeep could have just put a slick little flip up and down rubber door on.
What say you?
One can put a while hell of a lot more music on a small thumb drive, kinda makes CD'S obsolete.
