No wireless anything with this UCONNECT version. And you need to use the USB next to the window switch - at least for my 2022.

Current model JL/JT (2017-2023 model years) have the Uconnect 4 system, which does not have wireless CarPlay or wireless Android Auto. You need to plug in to the USB plugs around the cabin to have CarPlay or Android Auto. Or you can get adapter boxes that stay plugged in and provide a wireless bridge to the phone - I have a Carlinkit 4.0 and it works well. Once every ~10 starts or so, it won't connect right away; you can unplug it and try again while driving, or just wait and it'll connect straight away on the next start.

(I see there's a Carlinkit 5.0 now, not sure what's different)

The upcoming 2024 JL/JTs have a new 12.4" media center, and update to Uconnect 5. This does feature wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory. I'm sure people will figure out how to transplant it to the older Jeeps, but considering you need to change out a lot of large and complex dashboard parts it won't be cheap

I heard that the 2024 systems will support wireless CarPlay and Android as well. I was surprised my 21 Gladiator didn’t have it. However I can connect my iPhone to the unit via Bluetooth and it works well, just not the greatest interface.

I've read that the Carlinkit v. 2, 3 & 4 all use the same hardware. The v.3 has a different interface than the v.2. I haven't tried v.4.
Version 5 has both CarPlay & AndroidAuto in one box.

I use android auto and I use AAWireless to connect wirelessly. I have it hidden in the center console connected in there.

Any issues with the device staying on when vehicle off and phone still trying to connect to that wireless bridge? I've read through the forum posts on using the wireless adapter, but that seemed to be the biggest downside??

Yes I've had that happen. Drives me nuts if I'm working in the garage, otherwise it doesn't happen if I'm on the house or yard. Doesn't bother me enough to change it. Also it doesn't happen all the time. I think it goes to sleep eventually, only if I've recently had the truck on will it do that.

Gotcha, makes sense. There were some posts about jerryrigging the console USB fuses to where they turn off with ignition. Just seemed like a lot of extra work to get that functionality. I might just get the aaw box and not worry about the issue...doesn't seem like a huge deal.

I just plug mine into the center console USB connector and leave it alone. I do wish I had wireless connection to Android Auto, but it isn't a big thing. I have thought about the AA wireles dongle, but I just don't care. I have my watch connected to the phone so I just leave it in the console whenever I get home. Calls end up getting forwarded to the watches (I have 3 that I rotate S3 Frontier, Galaxy Watch, and the Watch 5 pro) so the phone is kinda integrated into the Gladiator. Sometimes it pisses off the wife cause I don't have my phone on me.... I guess I am not of that generation that needs the phone in my hand all the time.

It would be really cool if we could upgrade our infotainment systems to the new 2024 unit. Probably have to change a dash panel or 2 but what if it was pretty much plug and play.. .

I picked up the CarlinKit 3.0 Wireless CarPlay Adapter on sale at Amazon for $46 figured I could return it. But i actually works very well. I did have to update the firmware as it would drop on longer drives. As mentioned random times it won't connect and that requires unplugging and plugging back.

I had this problem in my JL.

The solution i came up with is a USB splitter. 2 way to one. Power+data into power and data.

https://www.tindie.com/products/essenceeng/usb-c-pd-power-splitter/

This way you have the power coming from the 12V outlet to USB charger plugged into power which does turn off immediately with the key. The data goes to the USB into the center console that stays on for 60 minutes after the key is turned off.. which plugs into the android auto/carplay box.

Now my Jeep connects wirelessly when I turn the Jeep on in about 15 seconds but turns off immediately when the Jeep is turned off and the doors are opened.

My 23 rubi will connect via Bluetooth to my phone, but then I discovered that if I plug it in to charge it will connect via Android Auto with the Spotify, Pandora, ect icons on the display.
Since I normally plug it in to keep it charged anyway, I use Android Auto most of the time.

P.S. There is a nice flat spot on the left end of the pax grab handle that is tilted towards the driver, I used velcro to hold my phone there instead of buying a phone mount. I did the same "velcro" thing on my JK using one of the a/c vents. Works great.
