One more Hemi going into a Gladiator, this time around it's a 6.4 Hemi.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. 64-hemi

485hp+ and 475 ft-lbs of torque, the 6.4 Hemi will make a Gladiator move fast.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. hemi-swap-grille

Any build has to start somewhere and we're going to start with the grille.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. cab-off

Then start tearing it all down until you can pull the cab off.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. pulling-36

Then it's time to start disconnecting everything on the not-so-old engine to get it ready to pull.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. 36-engine-out

Roll the chassis out the door, grab the forklift and pull the stocker 3.6 out. All the while trying not to breathe in the smoke hanging in the air.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. underside-cab

Every wonder what the underside of a new cab looks like? This Gladiator had less that 1600 miles on it.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. remove-OE-tcase

Next up is to pull the stock Rubicon transfer case off the back of the old 8 speed trans.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. bolting-tcase-to-hemi

Then bolt it to the new 8 speed behind the Hemi.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. grinding-frame-smooth

While that is happening, head mechanic Jeremy has cut the OE engine mounts off the frame and is sanding the frame down smooth.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. welded-hemi-mounts

Then I stepped away for 30 seconds and he had the new Hemi mounts welded in!

More pics to come as the mechanics make progress....

With the new mounts welded in and painted, it's time to drop the 6.4 Hemi into the chassis.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. hemi-is-tight-fit-in-JL-JT

The Hemi is definitely a tight fit. About a half inch between the pulleys and the front crossmember and PS box.

Time to step back and enjoy the view.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. rolling-hemi-back-in

Then push it back in the shop and get to work reassembling everything.

Northridge,
Those are some really inspiring photos!!!
I would definitely prefer a V8 to a forced induction 3.6.

I have 2 basic questions about Hemi swaps that don't seem to be answered on your web site.
Maybe some others are wondering the same things...

1) Will the 850RE from the 3.6 live behind a stock 5.7?
I thought I read the "50" in 850RE means it is rated to handle up to 500 ft/lb of torque.
If so, what is the general price difference (less the 8HP75) when keeping the original 8 speed?

2) Is there an industry standard $ credit for the installer keeping the brand new 3.6 for resale, or does that typically fall on the customer to haul away and sell these "take-off" engines/parts?

I appreciate any info you care to offer.
Have used you guys for years to modify my '17 JKUS.
Super helpful anytime I have called or emailed with questions.

Thanks and keep posting those great pics!

EDIT****
The 5.7 Hemi swap kit comes with a new 8 speed transmission.

The 6.4 (and Hellcat, Demon, Hellephant) comes with a HD version of the 8 speed to handle the extra power.

We don't offer any credit for the old engine. Too much of a hassle and liability for us to deal with what is essentially a used engine (even if low miles). Most people haul off their old engines, others leave them here.

Northridge,
I see your edit.
So the 5.7 also comes with the 8HP75?
Thanks.

Yes, they want to make sure the transmission is up to the task of handling us Jeepers...

How does everything work out with the electronics? Seems like the ecm, bcm, and tcm would all lose their minds then crap the bed.

The factory ECM is re-flashed to add in the Hemi control programing and it runs just like an OE installed Hemi.

Let's update status on this 6.4 Hemi build....

So we sent off the ECU to be re-flashed with the AMW4x4 500hp tune and all the other cool stuff they do to make this run like it was OE stock. While the ECU was going back and forth, the mechanics worked on getting everything hooked up and ready to run.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. installing-hemi-into-chassis

Starting out by hooking up all the components and accessories that needs to be done with the cab off.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. lowering-cab-onto-hemi-chassis

Then the cab can be lowered back into place and bolted down.

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. hooking-up-hemi-2

Then it is hours of hooking everything back up....

Jeep Gladiator Another Hemi swap at Northridge4x4. hooking-up-hemi

Then a few more hours getting the new radiator in place and getting hoses etc. hooked back up.

Once the re-flashed ECU shows back up and installed, the 6.4 Hemi Gladiator is ready to start....

And on first crank, it fired right up and runs beautifully.

Still lots of stuff left to do on the build. Will update soon.

Does it retain the MDS functionality too or does it always have all 8 cylinders running?
