Driving home from work last night, guy in a late ‘90’s Silverado runs a stop sign and I
t-bone him. He tries to leave (later he tells the cop he thought he had an outstanding DWI warrant, turns out he didn’t) but can’t because his left front wheel is at a 90 degree vertical angle. He tries to tell the cop I was speeding, the cop tells him not only was I not speeding but I had the right of way because I didn’t have a stop sign. Also he’s insured by a high risk company so I’m sure they’re going to be fun to deal with.
It went on a flatbed to a body shop I’ve used in the past. Not sure if it’s totaled or not, too soon to speculate. I’m ok except for a sprained wrist & cut’s & bruises on my hands. The seatbelt & air bag did their jobs.
If it is totaled I face a dilemma. My wife & I both made the decision about 6 months ago
that she would “retire” early (we’re both 58) & stay home with our grandsons. This cut our income in half. Our house & both vehicles are paid off & really don’t want to take on a payment right now. We’ll have to see what happens.

At least you're basically ok, could have been much worse for you personally injury-wise.

MO - total loss in Missouri is when the cost of repairs plus the salvage value is at least 80% of the vehicle's actual cash value.

The other guy was a real piece of work! Thought he had an outstanding warrant tells you that he knows he's been a naughty boy! Geesh, you should know whether or not you are on the list for such things. What a maroon.

Yes very blessed injury wise. I was maintaining the 35 mph speed limit so I’m sure that helped.
Good info on what constitutes a total loss in MO, thanks as always
for your knowledge.

Man that sucks and glad to hear your OK. Retiring early sounds amazing. I'd try to get it fixed and see where it goes. My wife had a 1999 Honda Civic that she really liked and she was in a head on collision in 2001. She somehow talked the other drivers adjuster into fixing the vehicle. All said and done they ended up in it for around $11,000 total. We only paid $17,000 for it new and I'm sure it was worth well less than that with 45,000 miles on it. Take a shot and see what happens.

@Midnight Rider sorry to hear this! Glad that you are alright and didn’t have the wife or grandkids in the truck.
It doesn’t look like a total but if it is, don’t settle for what you paid minus usage. ACV is likely more than you paid for it. Then you can go to Gupton for a new one below invoice.

They must go by ACV at the moment before the accident.
So with values actually dropping they'll have to gather the historical data - the value on that day, not what it is today. For that matter, it would likely be worth less next week than it was last week being a 2020.
It's based on the value at that time.

Because he's got a 2020 Sport S it's not likely to be worth more than what he paid. I don't know where the idea comes from that a 2020 is worth more today than when it was new.
Heck, my Overland sure wasn't worth more than what I paid. Unless he got a hell of a deal, it's going to be less than what he paid, and today's prices have skyrocketed.
The MSRP for a 2022 Overland like my 2020 was - was $6,000 more.

Glad you are ok. You got bumps and bruises. You will be hurting more for the next couple of days. You will feel your age.

A quick search shows 2 2020 Sport S's for sale in his area (both with low miles) at dealerships for $42K original MSRP on a Sport S was $33,545. Yes, there is a chance that it is worth more now then what he paid for it.
Gupton right now is showing a silver 2022 Sport S for $41,249 and a black one for $43,700
Like you said, today's prices have skyrocketed, which has caused used vehicles and equipment to follow suit. I have 67 pieces of rolling equipment that are worth the same or more than they were in 2020. New prices on equipment have jumped 30% or more.

@Midnight Rider let's hope that it is not totaled, but if it is some quick research should put you in a halfway decent position. It might not be a bad idea to do some research today on prices etc. before the end of season sales really start to kick in. Yes, it is worth looking out of the area to buy a replacement. It is often cheaper to travel than to buy local, and you get the adventure. We bought a specialty van for $20K less than I could find one local, but it was a day's drive away. For $20K, I found time to go get it.
