Are there any aluminum rear bumpers out there besides GenRight, EVO, Red summit machine works. Red summit fits what I like but it gets rid of the stock hitch, which I really don’t want to get rid of. I wish LOD had their bumper in aluminum because I like that design with the wrap around and the only other bumpers I like is the fab fours bumper and wfo concepts. I’m just looking for a wrap around aluminum bumper that I can install rear lights and maybe take the stock license plate lights.

Aluminum is too soft, and $$$. why would you want that?

update:

“There is an application where steel bumpers may be more advantageous; when you are involved in extreme rock crawling and want to support the weight of the vehicle on the corner of the bumper while you maneuver the rear over the boulders. This is great for a Jeep application, as the bumpers are smaller and the weight increase is minimal.”

Living in Wisconsin I hate dealing with rust. I would much rather pay the $$$ and have thicker 7075 aluminum. Better than dealing with rusting steel, it’s not the end of the world though. The front bumper I purchased is the rock hard 4x4 aluminum bumper and their aluminum skid plate setup.

I modified the GenRight aluminum bumper to take backup lights and changed out the license plate lights. It’s kinda expensive, but a hole saw and a bit to chafer the edge does wonders.

I agree with the OP, Aluminum is great. No rust, weighs a LOT less, and holds up just fine rock crawling. If you are worried about sitting your rear bumper on rocks, GenRight has braces for the sides, and you can run a hitch skid.

Do you have any pictures of your setup?

Weight? Aluminum is significantly lighter in almost every application and aside from hardcore crawling where steel slides better, it's a great choice for a pickup that likely isn't seeing that kind of action.

Understood weight, absolutely. But the ability to take a solid hit or being pulled on dodged me. ??

why not talk to Rock Hard about making an aluminum rear bumper, since you have their front bumper? Their catalog shows only a steel rear bumper at 85 lb. but their powder coating is pretty durable, and on the rear, steel would be a good idea for strength and skidding on a rear corner. They are in Nebraska so should be able to discuss snow, salt corrosion, etc. with you.

Aluminum has come a long way and it will definitely take a hit (often better because it's less elastic) if constructed properly. That's largely why so few vendors make aluminum parts because it takes designing specifically for aluminum and isn't as simple as swapping in .250 6062 and adjusting measurements.

The only place I really don't trust it is the front bumper, largely because of how it fails. I know RH doesn't use one but I would absolutely want a steel winch plate because aluminum has much less elasticity and will tear at its failure point while steel will obviously bow and bend when overloaded. To me it wasn't worth saving the 30lbs at 2x the price when I like the look of the ARB more.

Im a mech e…. Shhh… thats why it made me raise an eyebrow….
For strength and last, gimmie steel; pass on the aluminum.

Agreed, I would never attach a winch or tow point directly to aluminum. I don’t know if any aluminum bumpers that do that though?

Generally, you are looking at steel plates and tow points directly attached to the frame. The aluminum is then being used for the skin, where you don’t need the strength.

I decided to just get LOD Destroyer bumper, it fits what I want for the price point. The Fab Fours bumper has the nice sides, but I don’t like that it’s double the cost of the LOD bumper. For that price I can just get the LOD bumper and some backup lights.
