I have to pick up 162 cases of needles and I'm renting a small trailer from U-Haul. Do I need a hitch with a drop or rise, or is a level one fine? Any other advice or tips is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You may just have to wait till you pick up the trailer. You will want it pretty level when attached or maybe a bit higher in the front depending how heavy you load the front of the trailer. Do make sure you have some weight up front, will keep trailer more stable. You will also need receiver on truck.

might run a 2" drop hitch, you can get an idea from U-Haul, they also sell them there but AutoZone or home Depot might be cheaper. Not sure what kinda needles you're hauling but 60% of weight in front and you should be golden.

They're blood collection needles. They weight about 15lbs/case. I'm loading the bulk of them in the bed and maybe like 40/50 in the trailer.

So 2430ibs, should be fine... Just keep weight secured forward in the trailer to keep the tail from waging the dog. 1000ibs on the back end of the trailer might make things squirrelly on highway.

Yes. I'd rather keep most of the weight on the truck instead of the trailer. I was able to load 90 cases last time. Could have probably loaded more but I don't want to go over the height of the roof in the back...Especially when it's windy.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you're going through the process of renting a trailer and getting a ball mount why not just put them all in the trailer?

When my rubi was stock I used a 2" drop receiver and towed a 6x12 enclosed uhaul cross county. It sat pretty level.

Not everything will fit in the trailer so I’ll have to do a combination of both. I’d rather load more on the truck as a matter of convenience. I have the straight hitch but just got back from Lowes with a hitch with a 2”drop. Hopefully I don’t need it and can return it. Funny thing. On the way to lowes I saw 3 Gladiators and 1 Jk pulling a trailer. One of the Gladiators was pulling a trailer the size of the U haul. It looked like a Mobile dj booth or kitchen or something. He was going the opposite way and I could pop a u turn in time. But it looked like it was pulling it fine.

The Gladiator will definitely be able to handle what you're towing.

I've rented the 5x8 and the 6x12 trailers this year. I used a 2" drop and it was perfect. But, I have a leveling kit on my truck. So if yours is stock you won't need a 2" drop, just a regular 3/4" drop hitch will be fine.

So it went pretty well..Thanks for the advice gentlemen!

I went with the 2" drop hitch that I bought from Lowes..But I had taken the straight one just in case. It was a 112mile trip on the way up and I didn't even feel it. The trailer had a 55mph speed limit so I had the cruise control between 59mph-62mph. I got 24mpg with the empty trailer. The needles were damaged so I ended up taking 195 cases of gloves, which is well over 3000lbs. I loaded the heaviest gloves[XL latex] into the front and followed by the light nitrile stuff. I filled up the trailer and most of the bed.

I noticed the weight on the way back but not by much. This is by no means a Superduty but the fact that it can haul all that weight and still get 21mpg, while retaining its Jeep attributes is nothing short of amazing. I threw in my Tom Petty CD[CarPlay] and cruised the whole way back to Miami. I took some pictures when I got back to the office, all said and done It was two pallets in the trailer and one in the bed. INCREDIBLE!

The rental process was extremely easy, although in the future I'll just rent a trailer at the pick up point instead of towing it round trip...I dropped the ball on that one! The rental was only $22 including insurance, I cant recommend U-Haul enough.
