Can you still "baja" with that camping setup? I always tell myself i'll do a rig like that, But then I realize I have a Mojave and I like jumping and hitting sand at 80+. I don't wanna lose that.
Not as well as I used to that’s for sure. It’s a lot of added weight and it simply too much for the soft Mojave suspension. If I had known I was going to be putting a hwavy-ish camper on the back of this thing I would’ve gone with a Rubicon. And probably a diesel Rubicon.

I am saving my pennies for a suspension upgrade. But even then, I don’t know if I’m going to have the funds to make it Mojave level performance with a camper shell on the back.

On their tailgate? Does it mess up paint rubbing or any other issues?

What brand do you use?

I am tired of the black plastic bags I use while cleaning up on the trails.

TIA

Jim
I have one on my TJ, no spare and no issues with rubbing. On the JT I have a bag I won as a door prize and have yet to mount it, mostly because I use my tailgate as a message board so it is covered in decals so looking to mount it on the rack somewhere.

I use a trasharoo. If you ever have to leave your vehicle, they are a great go bag

Just to state the obvious, if you're in bear country any kind of external trash is a terrible idea. Not just in camp overnight - even parked unattended during the day can be a problem. And once bears get trained to look for trash, their future prospects get pretty grim (not to mention everyone's door and window repair bills)

True it's a relatively small fraction of North America, but I would have thought Reno was included

I use one from Rebel Offroad, and it fits the tailgate. No scratches so far...

Yeah, west Reno and south Reno up into the Galena Forest Estates have bears, and I have had a bear mom and cub 150 yards behind my house in downtown Carson City.

So exterior trash is a no bueno.

I'll agree to disagree, internal trash/food is far more problematic. With the trash in the bed of the JT or trasharoo on the JL sure a bear might steal it during a hike or lunch break. Inside they'll destroy your Jeep for it. Overnight obviously it gets hung in a tree.

Yeah, I was just addressing the first point. In bear country the best thing is to have your trash MILES from you!

But, if that isn't possible, then yes, hung up in a tree is the only way to go.

Applies to your food as well.

I've had trash in a bag in the bed, no bueno when if and when it leaks. I've had it leaked. I also prefer to carry human waste on the outside. Plus it takes up a lot of valuable bed space (having to pack for a family of 4). I've had trasharoo amazon knock off. It broke and made a mess on the trail. That wasn't fun. I'm running a trasharoo now and it doesn't feel all that heavy duty either. So I ordered one from adventure trail gear. It can hang from the tailgate when the tailgate is open making it very convenient. It looks to have a better attachment system as well. And yes, I do have some pain blemish and a couple of small dents from carrying wood in the bag.
