Ok, so called my dealer near me. I was told it's strictly for visual with a little sound damping from the foam underliner. Very minimal he said.
Love to hear from anyone at Jeep that might have different opinions.

In a business where pennies, nickles and dollars add up to millions over the course of a product run, I doubt Jeep wasted the money solely for cosmetic reasons alone for a engine cover.

I also could call my dealer 5x on a particular subject and get 5 different answers. So I would not put stock in much of what they say and I doubt they were on a conference call with the engineers getting a answer.

Make it for pennies sell it for dollars. Today's owners are more interested in cosmetic than function.

I will run without and enjoy seeing and sharing the engine.
I remember when I was asked to show someone my hemi when I had a 07 charger RT. Opened the hood and all I could show them was a cover. Embarrassing.

Off and not looking back. Oh, and all stupid safety stickers are also history.

Ooh that thing is ugly underneath as well as when it's on.

Right. They did a good job with the SRT. That motor looked nice. Well if you can except the fake lalve covers. Covers, covers, covers. Ahhhhhhh

Thanks for all the opinions and hope all enjoys their Jeep Gladiator.

"..... some amusing suggestions for what to do with a cover should you decide to remove it:
  • Hang it on your wall and tell people it's modern art
  • Use it as a serving tray for the holidays
  • Make some extra cash and sell it on eBay
  • Turn it into a litter box
  • Wear it as body armor for Halloween
  • Give it to someone you don't like as a gift. Watch confusion ensue.
  • Fill it with ice and put beer in it at parties
  • Throw it in the trash "

Just wondering how often you are opening your hood that this is a bothersome concern?

I will spare everyone from a thread of ' I removed my rear reflectors'.

LOL. Enjoy all. Love this forum. Lots of cool ideas and personalities.

There's a thread going on about replacing them with a flat surface and installing brighter backup lights. That's what I'm going to do.

I painted mine haha They were unsightly for sure! First thing I always do to a vehicle is remove decals and clean up the exterior. Free/cheap mods are my favorite!:like:

That looks good. I thought of doing the same but kinda like the open look for now. Clean look. Might need to reconsider.

I did the same to the front silver fog light bezels along with red tow hooks from a Rubicon. Definitely a better look IMO. It’s all about the small things.

Agree. I stare and look at the small touches I can make. Not a fan of any red accents. Black and suddle for me.

Removing all the safety yellow stickers also cleans up the vehicle. Like you said it's the small details.

That is exactly the reason Chrysler told me they used covers when I wrenched for them. It's easier to sound deaden right above the plenum than it is to manage that noise as it bounced around the engine bay.

It's also aesthetics since it was easier to make a snazzy cover for a functional polymer intake than it was to create something good looking and functional.
