I'm taking mine off.

I'm a gearhead, so I'd MUCH rather see an honest functional intake and other engine parts (even if they're not all prettied up) than a gleaming piece of Tupperware.

You won't be disappointed. I took mine off and it will never go back on. Same as you. Gear head. Not just a driver. Need to see everything. I cringe anytime a hood is opened and I see a engine with any type of cover.

Enjoy.

But what are the functional uses of the cover beside sound and aesthetics? Does it protect the engine from dirt mud and splashes? I see the underside of the hood has mud on it from wheeling or even splashing through puddles, I would presume the water would drip down onto the engine

Engine covers go back over 50 years, such as this functional "ram air" or "outside air induction" air cleaner shroud over the Tri-Carbs on the 1966 Olds 442. That is the kind of engine cover that I like.

I took the cover off my 13 Unlimited Sport after chipmunks ate holes in it.

That is ugly as hell, which is why they added covers and clean views.

That is certainly lacking in wire management. It’s like spaghetti in there.

I agree. After 50 years the wire harness is due to be replaced. The original wire harness did not have a central fuse box on these old trucks. Replacing the wiring harness with a universal 12 circuit harness is a time consuming task that I plan to do in the near future. Have you ever re-wired a truck PDiddy?
