No, I've never used it on my JT.

I used something called "hill decent" on a previous Super Duty, but this Jeep one works on flat ground as someone mentioned. And on uphill grades too.
It is perfect for EOTW situations where you can set it and forget it. Then climb in the bed and operate your 50 cal, stinger, or TOW missile launcher while the truck keeps moving.
Or just climb in back and grab another beer and burrito.

I used it quite a bit last time out rock crawling on hills At Rausch Creek.

You can also adjust the speed of the crawl with the gear selector.

it’s great for coming off rocks...no need to feather brakes as it maintains a constant speed using brake manipulation automatically..so you don’t slam skids and such.

Allows you to concentrate on your line more...

warning...it makes quite a lot of weird noises...creaks and groans...but that’s it working normally.

In the 80s I had a 2.8L S10 Blazer and would use 4 low to crawl the farm fields while ground hog hunting. I was able to some extent use my binoculars to glass for hogs while moving. It wasn't the best. I'll have to try my JT and see if it would be a steadier platform, the S10 had to be feathered as the terrain changed.
BTW the 2.8L was more like a 2.8 HP. Hated it and traded it in the next year.

Hmm, this one is tough to explain....you ever seen the Magic School Bus?

Just kidding around, but to be honest I’m not sure. I’ve been assuming that it’s like an off-road, low speed cruise control. That’s probably not right though lmao.
That's exactly what it is. It's for hill descent. I've used it once or twice. Not my favorite.

Oh sweet. Well then yea...it doesn’t seem like something I would like to use much either. I’ll give a try some day though. There aren’t many opportunities to use it in the Houston area. The biggest hill here is probably a landfill (not exaggerating).

No but after our college gang went to Uncle Sam's in Des Moines for penny beer night one time, I sort of felt like I was on some magical mystery tour.........

As it uses throttle and ABS modulation it might sound like your transmission and driveline is falling out.

I't ain't lol.

works pretty damn good, and since it uses the ABS it has the limited benefit of traction control while off roading if you don't have lockers, the brakes will limit a spinning wheel some.

There's an excellent description and explanation. And the sounds - brake ABS solenoids, pads perhaps groaning as they are applied lightly, etc. I drive my wife nuts with my older vehicles by letting up very slightly so the car starts to creep ahead and the brakes made moanful noises. She tells me to cut it out.

As a Toyta FJ owner, C.R.A.W.L. is king of the hill in my book. Not only is it cruise control, but will also dig you out if you're buried to the axles. As a new Jeep owner, I was hoping they had this feature. I'm assuming the Jeep does not dig you out autonomously? Toyota also has A-TRAC which I believe is probably the closest to the Jeep version.

I've used it several times for steep and slippery hill descents. It seems to apply brake to each wheel independently keeping the vehicle straight and stable, and avoiding going sideways. I don't use it for hill climbing as I need throttle control for that.

If you're curious... this video is from mine right after I bought it and with the new Pro-X 4-link suspension installed and I'm shaking down the new installed parts to see how they do. The thumping you hear in the video is the hydraulic bump stops absorbing the big impacts, especially where I'm going fast over extremely bumpy terrain.

You can zoom ahead to 3:45 in the video, where I'm using that off-road cruise feature in LO to control the descent since the hill is wet and slippery.

Used for both "rock crawling" and hill descent at Jeep Adventure Academy (Windrock Park TN).
When "Korg" gets to the rocks he stops and thinks about it then just crawls right up.

I also was initiated in using this at the recent Jeep Adventure Academy near Phoenix. It is a VERY cool feature indeed, once you learn how to use it and play around with it. Your JT will basically completely take over on acceleration and braking, all at a pretty slow pace (that's adjustable), and approach obstacles and go over/up/down whatever's in front of you. It does indeed make various creaks and groans as it traverses the landscape, though - noises I haven't heard when doing anything else other than using this feature. The other cool thing is the adjustability of the speed - you just notch it up or down, depending on what's in front of you. Really cool feature - glad I got to learn how to use it.
