I am still trying to figure out the mods, etc that the previous owner put on the Jeep. This is not a complaint. Just a fact finding mission, lol. The stop/start works fine. I prefer not use it part of the time depending on traffic. I use the button to turn it off. From what I am reading, I would need to do this each time I start the Jeep. Mine stays in the off position(light on the button)until I turn it back on. Even when not starting it again until the next day. When I do turn it back on, it works fine. This is not normal correct or did I mis-read soemthing?

More than likely there is a Taser or some other brand programmer attached and it has been set to off. Otherwise factory settings would reset the ESS on every start.

So that’s probably not a “live” feature? I guess once it’s set it stays that way?
That's why it's a live feature, it works as long as the device is plugged in.

You’re saying the ESS=OFF state persists across ignition ON/OFF cycles? That would be the opposite of how it’s typically described, and my personal experience. If I turn off ess via the button (light on the button illuminates). When I power the truck down and then restart it, ess is back in the ON state (light on the button is no longer illuminated).

Sounds normal, unless I misunderstood what you’re saying.
I guess I misunderstood. You’re saying that no matter what, the button stays lit until you manually touch it? Then it’s been altered.
Correct. The light stays lit until I manually touch it, even if it is over a day between driving the Gladiator.

That is what I was thinking. The PO did a lot of really nice upgrades and modifications. I found receipts for some tucked away and others I am discovering as I get acclimated to it. I have not had it for a month yet. I would buy the PO a beer if I ever met him. All of the upgrades are nice and something I would have done down the road.

If not a Tazer than possibly an Auto/Stop Eliminator has been installed
If the PO went this way, it would not work when I hit the button to turn it off?

Take a peak underneath the steering column and see if you see something attached to the gateway security module. If you see something hooked up to it with some zip-ties or something similar holding it in place, he's probably installed some kind of aftermarket device to keep the auto stop/start position saved to how you last set it.

I have an auto stop eliminator, and all it does it keep the auto stop/start in the mode you put it in between vehicle uses. So if you leave the auto stop/start turned off, it'll keep that setting through turning on and off the truck, and if you keep auto stop/start turned on, it'll keep it on.

Normally no matter what you've set it to during a drive auto stop/start defaults to on every time you turn on the truck, and these devices just remember the current setting and keep it that way.

Will do. Thank you.

Most likely this. It has a memory. It will be in the same position when you sart up as it was when you shut down. You can also turn it on/off while driving.

If it has a Tazer installed, without having look under the dash, you can try to get into the program from the steering wheel buttons. The link is a good for nothing YouTube video showing g how to access the program.
