Pulling fuse 42 is a better way to achieve the same results, preventing the electrical separation of the batteries. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/jumperless-aux-battery-pcr-bypass.59836/post-984922
This is exactly what I did - pulled the fuse and then also removed the negative cable from the main battery that goes to the Aux battery.

Did this because the Aux battery was killing my brand new main battery. Also have disabled auto stop/start of course. IMHO, this is not a well designed system and totally unnecessary for how and where I drive.

Page one gave me cancer....they argue about the dumbest things over there..
No kidding! I asked a question about an accessory over there and got a page of safety suggestions. I just gave up.

There is a button that turns off auto stop/start, some crazy engineer at FCA came up with it. I'm assuming your some kind of engineer to be able to make a statement saying it's a not well designed system since it seems to work fine for the majority of us. Just saying!

An aux battery used for a fuel economy feature that can make the entire vehicle inoperable is not well designed in my opinion. This is my opinion as stated and you are welcome to yours without being insulting. If you like it, more power to you; I don’t.

So instead of a real fix, you put a bandaid on it and complained about the engineering instead of your lack of understanding and willingness to learn and actually fix it.

I'm glad you didn't say "Jeep" in the same sentence as "not a well designed system" because Jeep used it after several other companies started using it. Jeep didn't invent the wheel, they simply put the existing wheel into their vehicles. Oddly, it works for non-Jeep owners - maybe because non-Jeep people look for solutions and not blame, or actually fix things?

Had you followed proper procedures, you'd not only not have issues with it, there'd be extremely low risk at all.

According to internet lore and haters who really don't even understand batteries, let alone electric systems.
Talk to those who found "entire vehicle inoperable" due to main battery failure.
And I'd bet a fair number of those didn't really know what they were doing (and yeah, I mean that) when trying to start a dead vehicle.
Most are "clamps on, jump in and start it" types when that's wrong from the words "clamps on" onward. Can't tell 'em though, they know better, they own a JEEP!
Like a friend used to say "just because it says professional grade on the box doesn't mean........."

I'm guilty for just clamping a power booster to the main battery to jump mine off when the main failed. I know little about it in all honesty, just like taking it to advance auto was a mistake because they swore it was the aux that was causing the problem. Turned out to be the main and mines been good for the past 26,000 miles since I put a new one in at 54,000 miles. Still rocking the original aux battery and I got right at 80,000 miles on mine now.

I’m sorry you saw it as a complaint. Again, it’s my opinion. I agree there are better solutions including removing the Aux battery all together. I had a trip to Moab upcoming and decided the workaround was good enough given other prep needed. I still feel it is. You are entitled to your opinion and do what you wish to your Jeep. There is no need to be condescending to others.

I don't think he was trying to be condescending, although I can see why it could look that way. And let's be honest, you are complaining, aren't you? So if he saw it as a complaint that's totally justified, just as you saw him as condescending.

What I saw was him pointing out that the facts you stated aren't actually facts but more-so internet rumors. Not really trying to tell you what to do with your vehicle, it's more trying to explain how it actually works in an effort to educate and remove some of the bad info from the message boards. Most people who make the complaints you are don't actually understand how it works and base most their statements off bad information they found on the internet, rather than actual facts and diagnosis.

I'm sure we can be open to that, yes?

fine by me, I really wasn’t complaining sorry you saw it that way. Have a nice day

Its been proven that you can just install one high quality battery, run the leads from aux up to the main, and call it good. ESS will function if you want it to no errors and your voltage is stabilized.

The ESS dual battery junk would be fine if small batteries were manufactured like they were 20 years ago. THEY ARE NOT. I have had 2 of these and both killed the aux batteries which caused the main to fail. To add to this the aux battery is the same battery my 2022 harley pan america uses and guess what? It too failed.

The issue is not the engineering or theory of the system its the lack of quality small battery manufacturers. The engineers assume the spec sheet on the battery will be what it can do for its life. Well they degrade faster than expected and cause TONS of electrical issues.

Also the shutting the alternator off all the time so the battery is playing discharge recharge was a pretty silly idea as we have managed 100 years of automotive use without doing that :).

Funny mine still rocking at 80,000 miles and I have a buddy who has 120,000 on his JLU with the same battery. So a hand full of people can call something a crappy design and call a battery poor quality and because it's written on the Internet it must be so.

I'm curious what study you was involved in that says you can run one battery and call it good. Seems to me you maybe should be working for FCA in their engineering dept

Yeah, he's been putting a lot of extra strain on his electrical system which has accelerated his battery failures. So he's definitely not a normal case.

Ya gotta love it! Minimum wage workers diagnosing a battery problem. lol
