Backup Camera Not Turning On

I was reading the other day about a RAM 1500 recall about the reverse camera not working, but related to a trailer reverse steering option. From the press release "There is an increased risk of crash or injury if the backup camera’s image does not properly appear when the vehicle is in reverse. In addition, the vehicles will not comply with federal safety standards until the backup camera is repaired."

Same problem here (2021 Gladiator Rubicon). Backup camera worked fine all day today, until it didn't. When I put it in reverse now, it shows the magnifying glass and "check entire surrounds". The verbiage disappears after a few seconds. All the while the screen remains black.

Here's a few photos of this behavior.

I'm hoping it clears itself up overnight ... not really looking forward to a warranty claim on a vehicle with only 1600 miles.

... and it's working again. Came out to the truck this morning and it was like nothing had ever happened to the backup camera. Bombed around all day in it and the reverse camera worked perfectly every time.

Fingers crossed that this was an over-the-air software upgrade. If it was, I really wish there was some indication that it was happening.

I noticed that the issue goes away after the car restarts.

Another observation was that it only happens after going from D to R. Haven't noticed it from P to R....

Mine has done this twice in the last 4 months. Very random. Works fine a few hrs later.

3200 miles and no back up camera .. same thing happend to me as the rest of you guys on the this thread. Will see what happens when I go for lunch ... From what Ive read, I should expect it to work again on its own. 1st oil change coming up. Maybe sooner if this does not rectify itself ..

+1 on 2021 Rubi 8.4" with 500mi. Had the back cam on for a bit today while in a parking lot waiting for the wifey to get out of the store.... Came home and cam was black .

Just adding in my bump. Brand new 2021 Rubicon with about 500 miles. Worked fine this morning. Just left to go to gym and won't turn on. We'll see in an hour or so after gym.

My backup camera started failing similarly yesterday. Noticed in the morning and drove nine hours and it started working again at the end of the trip. Works this morning too.

Sent a message to @JeepCares. Hope they acknowledge the problem and find a solution.

When mine did that, I took it ion to the dealer. Props to Performance of Columbus. Free rental while they had it all day. They have a diagnostic tree to follow and finally found a loose connector. I'm guessing behind the plate in the tailgate?
