Backup camera zoom not working consistently

I’ve been doing a lot of trailering lately and I’m trying to determine what I’m doing wrong that’s causing the zoom function on the backup camera to not work consistently.

When I push the little magnifying glass on the screen, sometimes it focuses on the hitch ball and sometimes it just makes a “boo doot” sound.

Any idea what’s going on?

Could stop by the dealer and see if it'll be fixed under warranty. Otherwise, try disconnecting the battery.

I have seen this often. It sometimes works if I restart the truck. Maybe if the is the camera is on when I shut it off? I'm not sure.

I have a manual tranny. I think the seems to work more frequently if I start the truck in reverse gear (with clutch in obviously), but again, not sure.

It is indeed very wonky! Though not worth a trip to dealer for me (I trainer once or twice a year).

I wish I could remember the sequence that works to get it to allow zoom.

Could be loose wires, mine started doing all kinds of things before it and the tailgate lock fell off inside the tailgate.
