Best Snorkel option ?

Hello guys,

So I have a sarge green 23 JTR on the mopar lift with bilsteins and 35x11.5 nitto trail grapplers. I am by no means planning on submerging my vehicle in a water any time soon HOWEVER i do enjoy an occasional offroad adventure. ANYWAYS, in a most cost/looks point of view, would you guys recommend going mopar or AEV snorkel ? Is there any other alternatives ? Again, I don’t really plan on going into deep water and I know that if I do I need to consider both driveline and electronics water proofing. Any help would be greatly appreciated fellas

Snorkels are cool, but the stock air intake with a quality paper filter is hard to beat. No added wind noise, the intake is up high, it gets cool air channeled through a radiator support, and it is well protected from water ingestion, especially with a lift and 35's. If you get too deep, a steady bow wave keeps it dry, although other problem areas will show up, such as getting above the diff/tranny/transfer case vent lines.

I've come close several times to going for a snorkel, though. It makes a great setup even better. I prefer AEV or any that are one piece. I'm not a fan of one with seams in it. AEV also uses a dust separator that is very effective and is made by a company that makes them for heavy earth moving equipment. I'd probably go that route, if I were going to do one.

Snorkels do look good, I am at the same point in contemplating the addition
For me though, I figure if I ever get water over the bonnet I am probably screwed, a snorkel wont be helping me
So for me the snorkel is not a consideration for water fording
But to having the air intake up high (aka snorkel) will definitely help getting cleaner air on dirt roads, particularly when following in convoy etc
So it may depend on what you use your JT for when off-roading whether it is an appropriate purchase
So considering that I think almost any snorkel would function in that respect but good quality parts would be important
Apologies, I have no experience with either brand you mentioned but my preference are the less intrusive cowl to roof style snorkel (I do not want to start cutting into my bonnet for fitment) like this style (not my car)

Rugged Ridge has a great option especially if you don't want to cut the hood. A snorkel is on my long wish list for mine. I'm on the fence over whether or not I want to cut my hood for a snorkel. I live in the salt and snow so the fewer holes I create in my sheet metal the better, but I think the direct through the hood version would likely be the better (performance-wise) option but I'm not sure I'm willing to cut holes...

Does Texas have dusty conditions?

I'm in AZ and haven't put a snorkel on my Gladiator yet, BUT I do have an AEV snorkel on my Wrangler and it is perfect for the AZ conditions if you add the Venturi Pre-Filter. Trail rides around here kick up a lot of dust. If you are back down the line of vehicles, it can sometimes even be hard to see through the dust cloud. That Pre-Filter literally removes all of the dust from the incoming air so that almost none makes its way to the paper inlet filter.

My wife and I will take our Wranglers out (a 2016 JKUR and 2018 JKUR) and our air filters are a night and day difference afterwards.

Being that I am in AZ, I'm not so worried about the snorkel for it's water fording benefit, but it is an absolute winner for keeping dust out of the intake.

And in the spirit of full disclosure, my wife just does not like the look and so doesn't want one on her Wrangler...and I've been a bit lazy and haven't gotten around to putting one on the JTR. But then, when we are in the Gladiator, we are typically solo overlanding and dust clouds aren't a real problem...

As previously mentioned, in dusty conditions, it is worth it. Most of my wheeling is mud and rocks, so I didn't opt for a snorkel. Unless you really need it, I'd spend the money elsewhere. If you do decide to go ahead and do it, please take the Rubicon sticker off that side first. It looks silly as the AEV (my choice) and other snorkels fail to fully cover the sticker.

I can also vouch for the Rugged Ridge snorkel, one of the least invasive ways to add a snorkel to the JT, and you can remove the upper section and put the "low profile" cap on whenever you like.

Plus since you aren't cutting up your hood, it's pretty much reversible, minus the one hole you drill in the air box that can be capped later.

Yea I wouldn’t be cutting my hood up for a snorkel.
For OP: Dust is a reason to have a snorkel on a Jeep, not water?

I like my rugged ridge snorkel. It does have one downside though ... getting to the fuse box is a bit more difficult now.
