Reports of folks with Sports experiencing rubbing when having 35x12.5x17 unless they lift or use spacers, but those with Rubicons or Max Tow (including myself) doing fine with 12.5 and no rubbing. I attribute the success to the wider axles.

Maybe you should reread my post. I said I thought about going with 285/75r17 or the Kenda 35x10.50r17. The 285/75r17 are not 12.5" wide. They are the same width as the 285/70r17 (11.2") that I already have and are just about an inch taller.

Well now that you clarified why would I need to re-read it? If you need another reason for my “magnificent opinion” it’s because I want to see more reviews for that tire

Oh I see now. I already started a thread on the Kendas so I might as well get them too. How do you like yours?

I am really not following what you are trying to say.

I picked up a used set (only 1/32” tread worn from new) in 255/75/17 and liked them so much I went up a size.

Ok, so based on this I can run 35s on my sport S with no max tow with Rubicon take off suspension? I am clearly "air dam" free. The rubicon shocks and coils are dirt cheap out here. See them in the $350 on CL with no miles on them. I was thinking about the Mopar 2in lift in the future. But this may get me into some decent tires earlier. I am concerned about off-roading with the stock sport tires... I know it says "trail rated" but....

You can run 35s on a max tow no issues mine havent rubbed yet. If you are in CA i can sell you my like new 35s on sport s wheels ready to roll for a good price just pm me. Ill even bolt them on for ya

Max tow gives you a little more space to fit wider tires so you dont rub. I dont have max tow, so 33's are as large as I can go. You can fit 35's with max tow on a Sport S and no lift.

Tempting. I am not a Max Tow.

I ended up going with a 295/70/17 The Falken Wildpeak MT/01. So a bit over a 33. Review wise they seem to hold up and eject snow and mud at a decent rate. We do get the occasional blizzard and I live on top of a 7% grade. I am getting them through our forum rep at Discount Tire on July 1.

Reason being... This is my DD. I will do a bit of off roading, but I will not rock crawl a DD. I'd think the 2 inch lift with 4:10 and 35s would be a smart move and I do not want to go with the gear swap or lift at the moment. I'd think the lift would enable the suspension to flex better with 35s and when you are off road you do need to be able to flex.

My 3:73 gears should be fine with 33s and not sacrifice any real drivability. Some great points were made on here about rotational mass and impact on the driveline and brakes. Big wheels are great, but stopping is DOPE. I am sure there is probably a BBK for the Gladiator. I ran Porsche 911T Brembos on my Audi before I ever started chasing 400+HP.

Suspension wise I will be installing Rubicon take offs, probably level out the front. Add some rock sliders, skid plates, a recovery and first aid kit and I should be set with a capable vehicle equipped for some mild off roading adventures and camping adventures in the back country.

If I am missing something here please let me know. I read quite a bit on here, y'all are much more knowledgable than I am, but this feels like a solid distillation of the wisdom on here and my needs. Do I want to chase the rabbit and build some nasty monster with a hellcat engine and D60s? Hells yes! But would I be able to drive that daily? Probs not.

The 285/75-17 is a great tire size for stock 7.5" wide wheels and should fit just fine with no lift on a sport or a max tow.
