Bolt hood lock install

Hey everyone, I bought a bolt hood look for my Jt. My question is I would like to use the middle grill insert provided with the kit rather than cut my grill is this possible and has anyone done this?

my fault it should have said bolt hood lock kit. The kit installs behind the grill and uses factory key to unlock hood for added protection.

the middle insert is for wranglers which has a different mesh spacing than gladiators. Could you do it? Sure. Would you like the results? i doubt it.

Does anyone make a middle grill insert for this kit so we don’t have to cut and matches the gladiator mesh pattern?

I just removed mine tonight. Back when I bought it I sent he company and askd them to let me know when they have a part that fits our JTs. Wasted piece of plastic delivered to us. Nice lock. Now I need to go buy replacement JT midsection to cover the hole that they tell you to cut in to your own grill, since they don't supply one.

Yes, check out the product but , beware and evaluate other options.

Why did you remove your bolt hood lock?

I cut the center section. It is actually a smaller hole than the one they send. Everything is black and its not something you really see.

Good luck opening that in the winter time If there isn't a cover to protect water from getting in there.

Selling 2020, will install on 2023 when it arrives. Will have to cut a hole in brand new JT grill and hang their JL on the wall.
Very nice lock, just a shame the company coild give a damn about us JT owners. Happen to be searching BAM now for a replacement grill mid section for the 2020.

I installed my lock without any cutting the grill, just had a new key cut that I can keep with my house key. The JT grill has large enough holes that this works without cutting

You don't have to cut as much as the instructions say. Nice sharp set of side/wire cutters will make quick and clean work. Barely noticeable from a distance unless you know to look for it.

Just curious, are you going to keep one of the keys from the 2020?

Because according to Bolt, each lock can only be keyed one time.
