Bumper retaining bolt torque

Going to attempt a bumper install today despite it pouring rain. There is no listed torque spec for the bumper retaining bolts. Curious if anyone has any suggestions on what it should be

It’s out there somewhere on this forum. IIRC it is 85 foot pounds but I’d verify with a search.

workin on taking off the rubicon bumper and the bolts are Not on tight. Maybe 20ft lbs at best. Weird.

i wonder if 50 would be sufficient.

also interesting to note the trailer hitch bolts to the bumper and the bumper bolts to the rubicon bed side rails. Like its all one piece. I wonder if by removing the stock bumper it effectively reduces the the capacity of the hitch.

I torqued them to 85. That felt about right. I was just amazed how loose the factory ones were. I can't imagine it holding up well to being drug over rocks.

I was confused about the specs on the rear lower control arms when I added skids. I think I found about five different charts with five different numbers. My torque wrench goes to 150 so I did that and a little extra. No issues on the trail yesterday.

i broke a bolt. super not happy. I bet it didnt even get to 70lb ft. So the install is on hold. Annyone know the proper torque for the front bumper. Warn does not specify.

i can go to the store and try to find something that will work. Or wait for warn to ship replacements. But im worried that will take a couple weeks. Kinda need this thing operational this week

66 ft-lbs. Those bolts are beefy, I'm shocked that you could break it. Might be able to sneak it out past the front crush cans though, now that's it's broken, to bring along to the store to find a replacement. You'll have to get the bumper fully apart to get the full length replacement back in though

I don't think it'll be any uncommon metric thread, I know my local Ace would have these in grade 10.9

Yeah i think im gonna try and find replacements for all of them. For one to beake has me concerned about the others. Could be a bad batch.

I tightened mine to about 3 Ugga Dugga’s after cross tightening.

So the guy at the hardware store said the cariage bolts are not grade 8. So i got some replacements but also got some grade8. Hopefully i can get a wrench on the back side of the bolt though. I doubt it. Will be giving warn a call tomorrow regardless. Pretty surprised the bolts in the kit are not grade 8 considering its rated for a 12K winch.

I seen your other post on the Warn bumper you received and below is what I think is the parts listing with the torque table up top.

Looks like a 1/2"-13 coarse thread Grade 5 bolt. The torque table listing on the parts page recommends 74 ft-lbs of torque. Searching for standard torque values for that type of zinc plated fastener has giving me anything from 55 ft-lbs and up to 90 ft-lbs.

They woefully put the wrong grade in that kit in my opinion.

wow. Man thats insane. I will call them for sure. I would NOT trust grade 5 bolts on a bumper that supporsts 12k winches! crazy. Makes me want to redo my rear bumper now too and use grade 8. Hopefully i can get a wrench behind the bumper for the bolts i just bought

That's a real cheap-out on the bolts, IMO, for a bumper that IS the winch mount.
Thankfully, my winch isn't depending on such bolts although the factory bumper bolts are more than adequate.
The bumper shown is literally pulling against those bolts when using a winch.
