Avoid the auto car wash at all costs, it’ll scratch the paint
The scratching issue aside, what do you do to clean the undercarriage after a good "mudding" or driving on the salty beach sand?

Compared to the desert scrub-brush, a car wash isn’t even a blip on my radar when it comes to worrying about scratches. Around here they call it New Mexico pin-striping.

If you are really concerned with car wash damaging your paint do a ceramic coating. Aldo pick places that rotate and maintain their equipment regularly, stay away from cheap franchises like golden nozzle, or gas station spots they are the worse. I used to obsess about paint when I owned sports cars in my 20s… had all the time in the world to pamper them. Now with Wife a kiddo and another on the way time is waaay to precious to sweat it on little things like that lol

I find the deep pools in the forest and narrow paths between trees are the best way to take care your Jeeps paint job. It’s all natural, no harsh chemicals, and your paint was specially formulated to be brushed clean by passing shrubs and trees.

I take it to a car wash with a good underbody high pressure wash….and yes, a car wash with brushes that actually touch my JT 😱😱

Pressure washer + rust converter in a spray bottle after it dries.

I actually considered a plastic film wrap which would be great but then I have to worry about application whether or not it’s gonna be scratched during the process, if done right I feel like that’s the best alternative.

Hello folks, another newbie question...Time to wash my Mojave I got a bit of mud on it last Friday in one of the state parks (but had a blast)...

It has a hard top...

Is just putting the transmission into neutral before entering the car wash enough or do I have to put the transfer case in neutral too?

Thanks in advance,
-Joe
As mentioned, just put the transmission in neutral.
Also, these guys really like to roll!
I found I was getting ahead of the push rollers, and causing the machines to stop. Applying one or two clicks on the handbrake will solve that issue.

For real? Maybe you shouldn’t have bought it….owning it could scratch it….

I guess I’ve never seen just a jet one where I am
Then maybe you should listen instead of spouting absolutes. Touchless car washes do not touch your vehicle. They’re less dangerous to your paint than driving the vehicle.

Huh. Is the Jeep paint softer than Tacoma’s? I’ve used a car wash for years and never seen scratches. It will remove wax over time.
