I can’t seem to find it, (probably impatience), but I’m trying to see who has installed a cd player, in the console. Kind of like Ram did into about 2019. I miss having one. I’ve had the “Hemi Itch” here lately, and also wanting more room. I miss the room, and power of my 2017 Big Horn I traded in on my Gladiator. I’ve been looking at a couple of lower mileage Rams, but don’t really want to get rid of my Glady. I can’t really justify trading, as it’s mostly me and the wife, and I don’t haul my 14’ car trailer anymore. I feel like if I put a cd player in, everything will be fine. (I’m looking at a 2019, and a 2019 Big Horn, and Rebel. Both with less than 40,000 miles on them, equivalent to my current truck, both with the factory cd player). But, I love my Gladiator, so, any suggestions as to a cd player would be great. I feel like I’ll be ok with the Pentastar, if I can listen to my 40 year old tunes.

Would be interesting to try and keep the stock radio and add a cd player but that would probably be more involved than you want to figure out yourself. I’d reach out to Crutchfield and see if they have any ideas on how to keep the current functionality and add a cd player. They’re pretty good with that kind of stuff.

yeah, I hadn’t looked at Crutchfield yet. I know there’s stand alones that will work through the usb, or auxiliary port. I remember someone quite a while back installing one, but didn’t see anything doing a search.

Check this out. May not be exactly what your looking for but cheap and easy to try.
The KLIM model has Bluetooth to connect to your factory radio.

Portable Bluetooth CD Players
If your car lacks a CD slot, a portable CD player with Bluetooth is a simple alternative:

  • KLIM Nomad Portable CD Player: Features Bluetooth, FM radio, TF card support, and auxiliary input. Can be powered via USB and easily connected to your car’s audio system using an AUX cable.
  • Insignia Portable CD Player: Affordable, with skip protection and compatibility with car power adapters.

What you should do… is burn all your CD’s onto USB sticks…..😉 That is…if your desktop computer still has a CD player in it (or buy one to hook up to it).
And of course, if you have one….the potential for totally frying the disk player after throwing hundreds of music CD’s in it (ask me how I know 😂).

That option might be cheaper to convert to MP3’s (or whatever platform they’re using these days)….and you’ll always have the music on USB stick that should last into the future much longer than the CD’s will.

But then you can't sit at a redlight and flip through your phone book sized binder of CD's.

Or put them all in a visor holder and occasionally one or two fly out in a hard left hand turn.

I don't miss a CD player in my vehicles, but I do love physical media. I still buy DVD's often, and the occasional CD.

In my tool room at the house, sitting on a shelf I have a 20 year old CD only head unit, an old Pioneer amp, and two Pioneer 6x9's that all came from the truck I drove in high school. Going to connect it to a power supply so I can listen to my old CD collection while I tinker at my work table.

I too would be interested in a solution other than a portable CD player via USB port, room is a scarce commodity and then there're the CB or GMRS units to squeeze in. My dad scoured junk
yards just for an AM radio so he could hear ballgames, in college with my '50 Plymouth I drove
with a small transistor radio hung on my vent window until I too found a radio that fit in a junk-
yard (and these were large tube radios that you had to let warm-up). I missed out on the Hi-Way
Hi-Fi record players and skipped 8-track but eventually I owned my first AM-FM cassette unit.
Most versatile so far has been the unit in my 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T, AM-FM, cassette and
4 CD unit. I have a huge collection of cassette tapes, I often made my own via my home stereo
and dozens of CD's. I'd try some customization but the Gladiator is too new to cut into. I guess
the factory audiophiles always look ahead and not behind, frankly Sirius radio can take a hike.

First vehicle I have purchased that I could not get a CD player in, and essentially no place to put one. I was, and am, thoroughly disappointed. I bought a portable player that broadcasts to an FM frequency that I pick up through the radio and use the power source in the center console . Nope, I don't and won't do iPod and other stuff-not interested. I guess I could put a multi changer with remote under the back seat but i have other stuff for that space.

I thought I'd miss having a CD player until I copied my CD's on compact thumb drives. One of them can hold several hundred songs. Just copy in single file.

No skipping or glitches, in my JT or Wrangler.

A word of caution if you go the USB route: Put the music on an external as well or keep the CDs around. USBs have a bad habit of getting corrupted or damaged in off-road vehicles. At least the affordable ones do. I think it’s the vibrations that does them in.

Probably no need to even fool with the USB stick, assuming you have a smart phone just get the music on there, take up a few gigs of storage sure, but it's there, then bluetooth or carplay/android auto to your heart's content.

If you have the CD's, and you have a computer with a disc drive, should be possible.

I dont want to hijack this thread but wanted to let you know how to get a cheap garage power supply. I made this and now use it to power a car radio in my garage.

OK, back to thread.

Just so happens - I have a retired PC that I built years ago, and it has a perfectly good power supply.

I will look into this...

OMG....You sound just like my brother. 🤣He has all that old stuff. He's rebuilt head units and builds his own 'speakers' from parts & pieces. He used to swear on vinyl but now its CD's.
At some point, someone must've (it wasn't him) burned his CD's into MP3's cuz they're in his Ipod Classic. He keeps all the CD's cuz he knows the CLassic is gonna die (like others he's owned).
I keep telling him.... at some point, CD players will be obsolete.

He says...'by that time, I'll be pushing up daisies' 🙄

After Hurricane Ida in 2021 (we took a direct hit) it was just shy of two weeks to get power back at my house, then an additional three weeks for internet to come back online. I was pretty excited to have my physical movie / TV show and music collection for that time.

I'm a bit of a gamer, and I have games that were digital only that my access was taken away from simply because their licensing agreements with car manufacturers expired. So, something you spent $60-70 was turned off because a money making deal expired. So, I have a lot of physical games that we play sometimes, because they always work, even without internet, and they (realistically) can't be killed remotely.

I do not think cloud based services are a bad thing, but I am firmly against relying on them solely. I can't escape it entirely, but I mitigate the best I can.
