I take it you are going to leave I 70 at Salina and take 50 across through Scipio and Delta Utah?

If you do a nice side route is State Route 722 just outside of Austin Nv.

Thank you for the suggestion… Actually we are heading to Salt Lake Airport to pickup family and then to Lake Tahoe area. Always open to side routes.

Day 5 started with fuel, usually a couple stops a day… then we did the Rimrocker trail, spots very dusty. Need to stop and smell the flowers, or at least photograph the yellow flower that peppered the landscape.

More Fins & Things trail, then we met Jodie and Ryan. She was spent in 100 degree weather, fell into cactus with 50 plus thorns in her leg and somewhat lost. Only one thing to do, load her and bike up for a trip to the parking lot. (Both JTs have rear seat deleted) We will finish Moab in a future trip. Off to Salt Lake City, with more windmills along the route.

Day 6 started in Moab, quick trip to Fins & Things trail.

Loving your trip report. It's been a couple of years for me since I tread some of that ground. I like your photo attached here. The climb out from the first section of Fins N' Things looks formidable. It's not that hard but it makes for a great photo or movie.

More Fins & Things trail -

This decent scared me. No surprise. I'm kind of a weenie. The big hole at the top that tilts you right when you want to turn left made me squeal. I followed the same route shown here. When I got to the bottom and looked back, I decided it would have been better to go straight down the hill. I don't have a photo or movie of my Gladiator doing this, but I have one of my buds Pro 4 Xterra. I've never been on the Rubicon Trail. I'm looking forward to your report from there.

I don't do that any more, just not fun. I did it years ago but my brain has changed .

One more reply while the guys head for the Rubicon Trail :)

I was a lifetime dirt biker. Once my kids got out of school and I had the time and money, I started riding motorcycles in faraway places and loved it. Several years ago, health issues made motorcycle riding in places like Moab or Colorado too risky, so I bought a Jeep. I use the Jeep to go to the same places I went on motorcycles. One of the objectives with the Jeep is that I need it to be drivable when I come out of the back country. Add in the fact that the Jeep cost a lot more than motorcycle to own and maintain, and I end up being more caution than a lot of Wheelers. The main off-road club in Moab, the Red Rock Riders, has an excellent rating system and they publish a rating guide for nearly all the trails out there. Trails graded 1 to 3 are just different levels of bumpy. Trails graded 4 and above are when the obstacles make you think. Fins N' Things is a 4. I don't know if the 4 is for the main trail, or if the 4 includes the hard sections. I know that my stock Gladiator Rubicon got hung up in the middle on the breakover for a climb in a hard section. After that, I quit trying the hard sections. The hill decent in the movie above was visibly intimidating. I got out and made a plan before starting down. If there had been a bypass, I would have avoided it. :)

Day 7 stopped by the Expedition Super Store for a tour and then to Salt Lake City Airport to grab family. Visited the Bonneville Salt Flats. Heading towards Winnemucca for the night.
