I am thinking of adding the K&N 63 Cold Air Intake. I have had one once before on a TItan. I liked it. But I have heard that they don't do well on Jeeps 3.6 liter. Anyone had any experience with this subject. What were the pros and cons of this mod besides low water crossings?

Pros: sounds nifty neat

Cons: CAI alone does nothing for the vehicle and can cause your MPG to drop.

To fully gain benefits from CAI, you need a full size, less restrictive exhaust AND a tune to allow both items to work.

Installed one on my friends Ford LIGHTING put it on the Dyno and gained 16 HP. Installed one on my 2006 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 6 cylinder and it did not give me anymore power or fuel mileage.

Like already mentioned -
Pro -
*Cool sound, you can hear it sucking air

Cons -
*no gain in HP, mpg or anything else. These gassers get all the air they need already. If you race....... maybe - above 5,000 rpm......... maybe
* K&N filters are crap. They let in more dirt than almost any other filter, and they restrict flow more quickly as they are used than most other filters. I have the charts and graphs from real ISO testing to show all that.

And finally -
there are several (at least 3 or 4) threads on these things already, dozens of posts, many many pages. Do a search, it's already been hashed over the last couple of years.
The bottom line is always - why bother unless you are after sound, and use anything but the K&N filter if you love your engine.
I could be a smart-ass and say "not another CAI thread!" but will resist. Maybe? LOL

Pros: street cred.
Cons: empties your wallet.
Yeah, those who don't know better will love it and say man, that's cool, I want one!
Jeep has done a great job on these things already - these days, they have to in order to squeeze out every last mpg they can to get through CAFE and simply survive.
Of course that has to be tempered with the old NVH stuff - so there's a chamber to keep it more quiet, but otherwise - it flows fine already.

Aftermarket intakes won't do much on newer cars/trucks unless you add less restrictive exhaust and a tune.

Had a Q50 with a 3.0 twin turbo. Asked to have the car dynoed prior to installing the intakes, tune, and exhaust. Added intakes then dynoed (to see gains) and actually lost horsepower. Sounded cool though veing that I wad able to hear the turbos.

Once intakes, exhaust, and tune done then dynoed. Had massive hp and torque gain. Turbos were much louder too (heard through intakes and exhaust)

IMO, if doing an intake, have a tune and exhaust done in the near future to make it worthwhile. If looking just for sound and don't care for gains, aftermarket intake is the way to go.

Ultimately if its going to make you happy, do it ??

Cheers

Like already mentioned, there is no pro but the sound. I have the K&N but put in an AFE dry filter.

Use Google and end your search thread with Gladiator, and you'll find threads on here.
Also, there are many other sub forums.
