There's proof the 2020 model year went into September, like the good old days.
That should imply that anything made in July or August is 2020 and will have the original type steering gear.
Read post #43. I think that's a 2019 build as in this thread we have confirmed a 8-14-2020 build as having new steel box.

Hey, new JTR owner here, first post! Loving the forums, very helpful community.

My JTR has a build date of 021421, so I presume to have the aluminum version.

Looked over the TSB, and I think “Steering Wander” is something I may be experiencing. I know when driving, it takes extra concentration to keep the Jeep running straight, it does tend to wander in the lane. Not sure if this is normal Jeep behavior or a symptom of this aluminum box. Would welcome feedback on this.

Has anyone taken theirs into the dealer to swap out the aluminum box for the steel and if so, was it a warranty repair or did you have to come out of pocket, and what was the cost?

Thanks in advance!

Bigdavepz, I just got my Mojave and have about 1000 miles on it! I am new to the forums as well, and this is my first jeep. I am experiencing EXACTLY what you are while on the interstate at higher speeds. This forum I have posted below has the most information about the TSB. I think I will be taking mine in soon.

mine is an August build of 20 (ill have to verify, but I believe I saw that last time I looked), and I have the 49 aluminum silver gearing.

On that same sticker is the six digit MDH#(month/date/hour) look for that number.

OK then that confirms sometime during the day 8/14/2020 they changed to the new steel steering box for 2020 models, as @catdaddy63 posted in post #23 that he had a build from 8-14 with new box.

maybe, thats just word. I would be more in line with your assumption if there was proof. Im not calling anyone a liar, but we havent actually seen proof.

Well of course but he works at a dealership is seems so I guess he knows how to check, and he's not out to gain anything, plus if I were to buy one I'd check under the skirt to make sure the carpet matched the drapes first.

@catdaddy63 any chance you can take pics of those 8/14 build ones with the new box part numbers?

New member here. Purchased my 2020 Gladiator Sport with the max tow package in early September 2020. It appears to have the steel steering box and the manufacture date is 8-20. MDH: 081717. My steering experience always seems fine. See attached photos.
