Well if this is true then they all ought to be base Sport models with rag tops and zero options. I don’t feel like paying for government employees driving trucks loaded up with all the bells and whistles options. Hate seeing any government car with a sunroof on it that I am helping to pay for. Tax dollars not at work.

I could see them at least having a hard top option because they do better in cold and don't last long.

GSA orders mid trim levels. Would be Sport S with Auto. Frankly I only see forest service, border patrol, BLM, military being allowed to order a few at a time. We are talking hundreds, maybe a couple thousand. Perhaps a handful for other agencies will order as specialty vehicle for offices in remote and rugged locations like Montana, Alaska, south Texas, Dakotas, etc. They currently order full size trucks and full size suvs. I don’t think anyone of them would want to go down in size due to the amount of gear they have to carry. With that said the current budget is not signed and the majority of federal agencies are slated to take a 5% budget cut in the Presidents current budget proposal.

Even if its true that the government has ordered 60K, it will be spread over years. Even then the total amount is not guaranteed. It's just like Aerospace where a large company will order 30 new airliners. That will be solved over x amount of years to come not all done during a single production run. Good for FCA if they did secure a deal for this.

Why would the government buy an UNRELEASED CONVERTIBLE truck, with what I understand will come with lackluster safety ratings, in that large of a quantity all at once?? No way Jose. Someone or some people need to get fired if that gets approved.

And I in particular would be highly ticked off if Uncle Sam gets one single Gladiator before any and all of us in this forum get ours delivered to us first. Get in line Uncle Sam, take a number just like everyone else.

Can we just fire and replace everyone in government?

I could see them down sizing to mid-size due to Eco Friendly stances within the gov. Area 51 and boarder patrol both have F150 Raptors so I don't see Rubicon JTs being much of a stretch.

This should be good news for all the Gobi lovers out there. I mean the government would take gobi right? Moves it up from late availability to first availability (just not for us).

I was 99% sure this was a case of inaccurate reporting, then I saw the 1st line of your post and the whole thing became much more believable. The answer is because when it comes to financial responsibility, the Government doesn't function with logic.

So JL-Engineline, can you shed some light on what kind of timeframe we are talking about for the late availability JT paints? How much after launch do you think it will be before they are available?
