Someone previously mentioned that it might be customs and border patrol that placed the order. From wiki it states that there are appoximately 20K border agents in the states, so they ordered each agent three Gladiators? Lol?!

Thought about placing a buy order on FCAU in the morning, but then realized FCA owes the U.S. government appx. $650 million for the diesel emission scandal or about 22k JTs @ $30K each. As many folks mentioned, 60,000 JTs doesn't seem even remotely likely.

Maybe they were buying $60,000 JTRs. We can't discredit this rumor in its entirety. Consider the history of Jeep and the USA military.

I take JT engine line as a real person.. not a troll.
I've seen his posts on the JL forum and tries to give solid information.

I myself wonder what the 60K number really means..????????
60K units are a lot of Jeeps.......a contract worth $3 billion 600 million dollars if each Jeep has a $60K MSRP

Maybe the 60K means each Jeep costs that much???As stated above

If true that's around 4 months worth of production. August timeline for customers.

A government purchase could also be X amount of vehicles over a period of time. Not all built and delivered in 1 year.
This was my assumption too. I have seen JLengineline on the sister site as well and he always has good info. I also believe him to be a legit "inside man." But I don't care if the rumor is real since all of the production bugs can be worked out before mine is built.

Also, 100k total for JT production is a fluid number that will likely go way up. How many JLs are they selling per month? If demand for JT is as high as I personally believe it will be, 100k annually may not be nearly enough.

Wait, I got it. The info is just goofed up. The government is ordering ONE $60,000 Jeep!

Govt order and pricing mysteries solved. #creditsteffen707

Yes likely the .gov asked FCA for a quote for x-number of JT's to be delivered over a certain amount of time.
The 60K number could easily be order quantity - And/or purchase price.
It could even be a foreign government = Egypt's military has purchased Wranglers in the past.
Maybe the UN is gearing up? It's not like they can order Defender pickups anymore...

Consider that we have at least 75 Federal Agencies, and the GSA Fleet alone is over 214,000 vehicles. Sedans, Vans, SUVs, Trucks, etc...

If this is legit, the USG probably placed an order for base model JTs to replace the aging sedans/SUVs/Trucks in the GSA Fleet. Perhaps this coincides with FCA spending 4.5B in Toledo. If the order was for 60K JTs, I could see 20K/year for 3 years - easy.

GSA buys govt vehicles under invoice price. Many agencies order from a dealer in their area. GSA pays and then they are delivered to fleet. This is not a profitable move to delay delivery of their hottest vehicle. Additionally the amount needed to purchase 60k trucks in 4 months would require an appropriations bill to be passed by Congress to enhance GSAs budget.
