Dealer can’t get battery

Bought a left over 2022 Gladiator Rubicon. Before I asked, Dealer said they would be replacing both batteries as they tested weak. Small town dealer so did not have main battery in stock. Said it would take 4 days. Now they say three weeks to get a battery. I can drive 10 minutes to my local NAPA store and get them both( I checked, they’re in stock). Pretty frustrated at this dealer.

It's not the dealers fault and you can get better batteries for less money than dealer cost.

But since this is a warranty issue, you are at the mercy of the MOPAR supply chain.

Your profile says you are in Avondale. I’d have to believe that one of the other dealerships in the Phoenix area would have one.

Personally, I’d just go get one at Napa and be on my way. You’ll get the same 3 year warranty and a much easier warranty replacement process with Napa than the dealership if that one should fail. The Mopar batteries are cr@p honestly. I currently own two JKUR’s and a JTR and this AZ sun/heat killed the OEM batteries in about 2 years. The ones I’ve been getting from AutoZone (Duralast I think) have lasted much longer.

Dealership resisted when I even said I’d go to another dealer and pick it up. I’m not going to buy new batteries when part of my deal was two new batteries provided by dealer. in the future when these go bad, I’ll buy better batteries.

I replaced my first set of batteries at 50,000 with a set from the dealer. And that was after they initially gave me the wrong one and it cost me a cross town trip in the JK. Lol.

Replaced them again at 132,000 miles with a batteries from Autozone. I think I saved around $150 or more. Same size and don't have to ride around looking for a dealer with a battery.

What are the type or size of the batteries? I have a JTRD, but think it came with the smaller of the two. When I replace I want to go with the larger one...or the larges the tray will allow.

Just an FYI, the BOSCH S6590B is $114 at Rockauto.com and has a 48 month warranty.

The MOPAR battery, if you can find it, is $113-$160 depending on location and dealership and a 36 month warranty.

Did the dealer put in writing replacement of the "weak" batteries? If they did, sent a letter stating that the batteries are readily available at another local dealership and any further delays will result in a daily fee of $20.oo until the contract is honored and upheld. Be sure to send it signature required attention dealer principal.

Ask them to deduct the cost of the new batteries from the sale price and go buy them and have the dealer install them.

Yeah, I'd be awfully torn - letting the dealer do it free, labor and all is one side

If you have the aux switches, you have the larger battery.
It's part of that aux switch package.

I can't speak for now/currently, but a few months ago, no one, not even NAPA, had or could even get the aux battery.

I'd only ever replace both after xxx time has passed as you have diminished capacity on 'em, both of them.

And when you replace the batteries - DO THIS or have troubles -
CHARGE each battery BEFORE installation. Use a good AGM charger for these AGM batteries.
Disconnect the IBS and leave it off for 10 to 15 minutes to reset it.
Install both new fully charged (parts stores do NOT properly charge batteries, if at all) and then put the IBS back and hook everything up.

Rules -
* Reset the IBS before/when replacing batteries
* Charge each battery before installation

(that's not only logical, but it's MOPAR saying that as well)

For the price of the new vehicle, that dealer should be bending over backwards to get you out the door. The dealer may be “resistant” to you going to another dealership but it’s your vehicle and your Mopar warranty (not your warranty for that specific dealership). Have him jump it and get it running and drive to a dealership that has the battery and have them do the warranty replacement. That dealer just wants to earn the warranty replacement money from Mopar.

Heck, tell them to pull it from another vehicle on the lot. If you haven’t “taken delivery”, threaten to walk on the deal. Problem is here, that he thinks he holds all the cards and is not treating you as a valued customer.

Agreed. Not to mention that’s it’s brand new versus paying $100+ for something 3-4 years prematurely. But I hate…and I absolutely HATE…when dealers play this game and would do anything I could to avoid their shenanigans.

I live in his vicinity and made calls and the two area dealers I frequent, both have batteries on hand. Either his dealer or he is not telling the whole story…

The dealer is not to blame. I was going to ask for new batteries, but they offered before I got the chance. The vehicle is at my home, starts and runs every time. Charging at 13.8 to 14.2. ESS works when outside temp is not 116°( I’m in AZ). Deal is finalized , loan funded. I offered to pick up the batteries from another dealer and have selling dealer install. I believe they are held up by the rules on warranty repairs and possible supply chain issues. I will see what this week brings.
