I’m new here, I have a 21 gladiator sport s with 58k on it. I need some advice the dealership replaced the intake camshaft and the lifters due to the cam being worn down. First red flag for me is they seem to have re used the old gaskets and did not replace the rocker arms. Second red flag when I got it back I drove it home and lo and behold the temp gauge starts rising, they didn’t fill it back up with coolant and left the cap off the reservoir. The motor still makes the dreaded ticking sound on cylinder 1 and has a p000A code now, what angle can I take on this to get it fixed correctly? Or am I going to just have to do it myself? Thanks!

At this point, I think you will need that same dealership take care of it. How far did you drive without coolant? Probably not a good idea to drive it back to the dealer like it is. Have them send a rollback to fetch it.

I'm afraid they will take a gamble, and fill it with coolant and tell you the noise is normal and send you on your way. Make sure they document the return visit.

If you go to another dealer now, they may turn you away, not willing to work on another dealers error.

Documentation is key. Read the notes and make sure your complaints are described, "no coolant, cap off, overheated and still ticking".

I hate to hear this. Sorry man.

Sounds like an issue for Jeep Cares.

Wow that they didn’t replace the gaskets, PLUS the rocker arms in place with the prematurely worn cam and lifters on the same cylinder valve train is absolutely wrong! Never mind not refilling the coolant system in an all aluminum engine is totally inexcusable! I would call Jeep Cares, Jeep Corporate and Jeep Customer Service and Support! To send them all the pictures. But in every instance I go to any dealer or shop for work an anything I own, I ALWAYS without fail open the hood to inspect ALL fluids and fill caps! When doing so and I found that reservoir cap off and sitting on top of the fire wall? I would have dragged that service manager gently over to show him!

What does the repair order itemize out for parts used? They usually will list every part they used.

Repair order has camshaft intake listed and 6 tappet valve lash listed, after some digging the part number for the intake cam which is 68661147AB is a whole kit that comes with rockers, cam, lifters, gaskets and spark plug seals. And another part number 5047883AC for the valve lashes. The correction comment only stated putting a new camshaft in it that is all.

Maybe I missed it, but what makes you think they reused things? Could it be that they didn’t reuse sitting, and the only error here is the coolant issue? That would make this a lot more straight forward.

Well the only error isn’t just the coolant debacle it now has a p000A code which is camshaft position slow response, and a very audible loud tick worse than before i had warranty work done on my wife’s jeep and they listed every gasket every part and even how much coolant was used I’m just skeptical at this point as the tech said no active codes returned but I can clearly see in the history of the codes the p000A code popped while in their possession

The kit part number and not listing everything in the kit, I can see the reasoning of not putting everything in the kit listing on the repair order.

While you have every right to be pissed, you are still beholden to them to correct it and I would be careful of making accusations of not using all parts unless you absolutely know 100%. The coolant and cap thing is a given to let them know but I would not be raging over it while trying to get them to correct the problem still at hand.

FWIW, there has been people who have had that CAM kit installed that also did not take and eventually the call was to replace the whole engine. You have to ride the process out to it's conclusion if all this is being treated as warranty work.

Also, looking at your coolant reservoir pic, the coolant is below the low mark but still has coolant up to the seam. So it did not run low within the engine circulation system itself, just the cap was not on and could not build pressure that would keep the boiling point at a higher temp.

That really didn’t help answer the question. What shows that they didn’t replace the parts listed?

Update: new rocker arms were not installed, chewed up the new cam they put in it, they said they will be replacing the whole head now, hopefully everything goes smoothly and I can have my truck back in the near future.

Push them for a oil change also.

Any explanation on why they left out the rockers even though the kit part number they listed includes them or did you just get a Elmo shoulder shrug and the word "sorry"?

Basically said my rockers seemed fine and don’t think I needed them, they are doing an oil change and a whole coolant flush as well. Also extending the warranty on that specific side for another 3 years in case something else goes wrong which is nice I made them put that in writing just to cover myself
