Almost forgot, they drop the ball with the trailer brake controller as well. How lazy and ineffective can they be if they could never simply have this installed on trucks that they love to highlight "best in class payload and towing" but oh it has to be configured right lol smh.

Some things I get that should be packaged. Heated seats, steering wheel, auto climate control, and so on should be packaged together as it is, Tow packages should include LSD no matter the variation, but maybe you want a stripped-out gladiator with a 5.7, 6 speed, 4.11s, LSD, all terrain 33s with a tan soft top, tan interior, and Gobi exterior.
I remember when my brother ordered a 1982 Camaro Z28 pace car. He ordered it with the base v8 engine, automatic transmission, A/C and Delco am/fm 8 track player with manual windows and locks. T-tops were part of the pace car package, so he got those anyways.
I ordered a 87 LX5.0 Mustang. Yellow ext, with tan guts, with the only options I checked was cruise, and tilt wheel. No power anything, no radio, no A/C.

Guys- the days of "roll your own" are long gone, and is never coming back, better stop dreaming of "the good ol' days". The checklist at the dealer of each individual option you wanted existed when people where making the entire vehicles with your cutsheet while standing on the line. Robots do the majority of the assembly now. It's faster, cheaper, easier to program X, Y, Z package into the computer and let the robots have at it, that's why if you want one thing, ya gotta bundle in a bunch of things to didn't ask for. Part of the "program" X, Y, Z, but Jeep labels it "package". To only add one option, say LSD, would be a programming and logistical nightmare. It's the way our modern world turns, unfortunately. We can stomp our feet and turn in tiny circles, but it ain't changing.

If you want an "off the line" Jeep build the way you spec, you couldn't imagine the added cost !!

I hear what you are saying and for the most part it is true. It is 100 percent to maximize profit and minimize/simplify production cost, but the thing is it doesn't have to be that way. With more automation, robotics, software, AI, etc it should be easier than ever to simplify custom build options. A computer program should be able to look at a build sheet, analyze the required interface items to make everything play together properly and then send it to the automated assembly line. If they want to make more profit , they might find that happy customers, creating brand loyalty, stirring up enthusiast buzz and publicity is a lot more sustainable than trying to milk every last penny they can from one time sales.

A plain tan van
with a one piece swinging rear door,
sliding side door,
and the new Travel Package,
bench seats that could face each other,
club seating style, over a removable table
or laid down flat for a double bed.

We used club seating a lot with the kids
but only slept overnight once
for a BMX race out of town
with my 7-year old.
For you youngsters out there,
BMX racing... never mind.

Other options I remember:
the 36 gallon gas tank,
very handy during the Arab Oil Embargo,
no radio, (I installed a CB/AM/FM radio)
heavy duty sun tint windows,
and optional larger wheels and tires,
the same black wheels with hubcaps
used on Dodge police cars.

I do not understand why factory vans
are not available with a travel package
like that now.

Jeep this man speaks the truth. Stop taking away options and please add options and choices many have ask for throughout the years. Bring back the sport trim especially being that you need cheaper options because we all know these things are 6k to 10/12k overpriced. Stop being cheap with gladiator and release the options. The gladiator and wrangler are already at the peak of refinements and should not have any issue with all these request. Stop droping the ball

Hell, I did this in 1998. I custom ordered a Black on Tan (Camel) 1999 Dodge Ram Regular Cab, Short Bed, 318ci, 4x4 SLT, fully loaded, with a 5-Speed MANUAL transmission! Try ordering something like that these days.
