2022 Gladiator Overland 22,000 miles, never 4 wheeled, always garaged And babied. Only seen rain a few times. Completely stock and tires still great and even tread not even have worn. I was going down interstate 70 at about 75 mph after church and I usually take the passing lane in this one spot but there was somebody next to me. The road isn’t deep bumps or holes but Brocken like in a series of spots on right tire path mainly. Anyway I got the death wobble and slowed to 50 and wobble stopped but every time I picked up speed it did it again Whith this broken road ? Once the road smoothed it was fine even hitting bumps not in a series ? I can’t believe the suspension is worn out already that would be pretty sad for Jeep ? I got to get under it and take a look to see if something has loosened up. Steering stabalizer ect… ? Any Ideas appreciated.
This death wobble is no joke. It doesn’t like stop once it starts. I remember some Harley’s having the same issue years ago.

I recommend that you try this before you attempt DIY fixes.

The first link is a post that I wrote in January 2025. The second link is an article posted on Kelley Blue Book.

1. What to say to service advisor at dealership
2. Possible warranty extension specifically for death wobble

Between my JK and my JT, my go-to checklist is the following:

1) check tire PSI
2) make sure tires are balanced
3) check to make sure suspension components are torqued to specs and not worn
4) check the ball joints

I understand this list is probably incomplete but its a good general list to keep in mind.

I was having baby death wobble on my JT with my Falken Wildpeaks. I was having the tires balanced at each tire rotation. At the 3rd time, I had them check the suspension.

After the 3rd time, I decided to check the ball joints. The ball joints were clapped out after 10-15k miles of running 35's. Had the ball joints changed and its been smoothing sailing ever since.

ChatGPT gave me a comprehensive checklist (haven't done it yet, but I will). For me, cold temps is a contributing factor that not many people talk about.

Jeep Gladiator Death Wobble – Step-by-Step DIY

Diagnostic Guide

Safety First (Non-Negotiable)

• Work on flat, level ground.
• Set parking brake and chock wheels.
• Keep vehicle at normal ride height unless instructed.
• Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.

Required Tools

• 1/2" drive torque wrench (up to 200 ft-lb)
• Breaker bar
• Sockets: 18mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm
• Paint marker or nail polish
• Flashlight or headlamp
• Tape measure
• Floor jack
• Jack stands

Step 1 – Baseline Check

• Set all four tires to equal cold pressure (start around 35 PSI).
• Inspect for uneven wear or missing weights.
• Remove unnecessary heavy cargo.

Step 2 – Track Bar Bolt Torque (Most Important)

• Vehicle must be at ride height.
• Frame-side torque: 160 ft-lb.
• Axle-side torque: 125 ft-lb.
• Paint-mark bolts after torqueing.

Step 3 – Track Bar Mount Inspection

• Look for metal dust, elongated holes, or cracked welds.
• Have helper turn steering wheel (engine off).
• Watch for movement before axle responds.

Step 4 – Steering Linkage Check

• Observe tie rod ends and drag link during steering input.
• Look for clunks, delay, or visible joint movement.

Step 5 – Control Arm Bushing Inspection

• Inspect front lower control arm bushings.
• Look for cracks, separation, or metal contact.

Step 6 – Caster Measurement

• Use digital angle finder on flat knuckle surface.
• Target: 5.5°–6.5°.
• Left and right should be within 0.3°.

Step 7 – Track Bar vs Drag Link Geometry

• Take side photo on level ground.
• Components should appear close to parallel.

Step 8 – Lateral Axle Movement Test

• Raise one front wheel safely.
• Push/pull at 3 and 9 o’clock.
• Watch track bar and linkage for movement.

Step 9 – Cold-Soak Recheck

• After sub-30°F overnight soak, verify torque marks.
• Re-torque if necessary.

What Not To Do

• Do not install steering stabilizer first.
• Do not replace multiple parts at once.
• Do not torque suspension at full droop.

Death Wobble can be caused by many things. It’s not that a 4 year old Jeep will have worn out parts, but maybe you have a loose joint somewhere. As others have suggested, you need to check to check the torque specs for your steering and suspension up front. To need to check to see if the ball joints are loose or going bad. You need to check your tires. In winter, especially with slightly lower tire pressures, the flat spot from sitting can take a few miles to round out. If you hit a bump before it rounds out it can give death wobble, but will resolve. Lastly the steering stabilizer. Don’t go here fist. This is last once everything has checked out. Otherwise you may just be putting a band aide over a bigger problem.

I would definitely check your tire balance and PSI first.

Yes, I'm replying to my own post! I failed to mention one more thing.

If any shop mentions or suggests changing to the steering stabilizer, death wobble your way to another shop. The steering stabilizer isn't meant to fix or minimize DW.

My JT has about 56K miles on it and started showing signs of death wobble a few months ago, which seems to be getting worse. Usually about 65mph, hitting an expansion joint while on a curve to the right sets it off worse than to the left.

Been too damn cold to check anything for tightness, so I've been trying to avoid the highway.

My '22 started having death wobble at 32K miles. Im on 285s (stock Rubicon size).

It was the drag link. Upper and lower ends were worn out. I could feel them clunking if I held my hand on them while someone shook the steering wheel.

Play in parts like the draglink or trackbar is a really common cause of DW. That play can be in the ends, or even in the bolts used to secure the ends (the bolts not fully tight or the bolt holes wallowed out, often from not being fully tight to begin with).
It can also be from worn out ball joints, or anything else that allows for play in the steering system.
Unless your caster is crazy low it usually isn't from the geometry of the front end. And while things like tires can be what instigates DW, they generally aren't the true cause of it. If the play isn't there to begin with tire pressures or balance aren't going to cause DW.

Mud on the wheels or lost balancing weights can throw your wheels out of balance, and trigger a wobble.

Speed related wobbles and Death Wobble are two different things.
Death Wobble is amazingly violent, it is an uncontrollable back and forth shaking of the steering wheel and thus the front tires, and you typically have to slow down to a stop or near stop to get it to go away. But usually slowing to a stop is fine because it allows you to catch your breath and go "WTF was that?".
