Tuff choice as I am selling my F150 :-( and going with a Gladiator Rubicon :). Trying to figure out what engine to go with. I will be modifying either one and I have found nothing with a comparison of both after being modified. A diesel with a Banks package or a gas with a Ripp/Magnusson package. It's a big decision given a starting point at 60-70k+.

It will be mostly a daily driver but I do tow a boat at 4k lbs and some enjoy some Moab fun with brother in-law (Wrangler v6). Also, I live in the PNW and love playing in the snow. Deeper the better!

I value all opinions.... Thanks!

Decision was easy for me... I wanted an MT so I only get one engine option :)

Good luck... this thread will likely explode with religious-worthy debate.

If your looking to tow the 3.6 is the better option. I have Sport S with regular tow package with 3.73 gears and I am rated to tow 6000lbs.

In pnw the diesel will tow better. Not like you will be towing in the sand dunes or ike ...diesel also gets better mpg and will have better resale.

As someone who has owned diesel vehicles for the past 30 years I would go with the gas. I have a 3.6. The current generation of diesel vehicles are overly complicated due to emissions. Diesel engines were never intended to run with the current restrictions. There is much more to go wrong than in years past and within the next several years diesel engines in any non-commercial application will be a thing of the past. Go with the gas engine.

Hmmm well I've driven both. The 3.6 IMO is a slug. Best mpg was 22 drove the diesel I've hit 29 in stock form and 27 with Rubicon tires. The gasser kicks down to 6th going over the overpasses here. The diesel barely kicks down going from 4100 to 7000 ft. Plus I can pull it into manual mode and maintain 8rh gear. Love my diesel.

I don't want to offend anyone's choice of diesel. All ICE engines are doomed for extinction in the future. My wife and I both have VW TDI vehicles. I am just pointing out that they are far fewer diesel vehicles on the market and there are reasons for that. I have personally owned two Ram ecodiesels. The 2018 was a quality truck. The 2014 was a nightmare. I wish all the diesel owners good luck with them but based on personal experience they are not worth the premium price and added cost of maintenance.

Back to the original question, I think you'll be hard pressed to find one who has driven both.
