My new ‘22 Sport S has the proximity key locking/unlocking feature. The UNLOCK function works great, but when I park and get out of the thing and push the little button on the door handle to LOCK it, it does nothing for a few seconds. If I stand there and keep pushing it, eventually the horn beeps and I hear the doors lock. Why the delay? I’ve only had it a few weeks - and I want to say it didn’t do this when I first got it… it would lock immediately… but maybe I’m remembering it wrong. Is there a setting somewhere that affects it? Maybe I’ve changed something without realizing the implications. ?‍♂ I realize I could just push the lock button on the INSIDE of the door panel as I’m getting out (or use the lock button on the key fob) to avoid this issue, but if I get into the habit of doing that, what’s the point of having the proximity key and the button on the door handle? Any ideas? Not a big deal, but slightly annoying. Thanks

When you lock it, make sure you use just the tip of your finger and nothing is touching the door handle. Check the battery in the FOB, it may need replaced.

You could also try rebooting the truck computers and see if it helps any. Disconnect both batteries for about ten minutes.

i used to make the mistake of grabbing the handle and pressing it with my thumb. That wont work because the sensor is telling the door to unlock. so it won't lock.
I started out like this.

Found out quick i needed to do this.

But that's just my dumb a$$. have not had an issue since i adjust my approach to locking. That and just using the LOCK button on the remote. I like that better because i'm a freak the will have to walk all the way back to my truck just to hear the horn confirm its locked because i always have so much going on i don't remember is i locked it. Plus i wont pay for Uconnect service, yet.

Thanks for that reply. Yep, I’m very careful to touch only the button… Jeep is brand new, key fob battery is apparently strong… it unlocks immediately and I can remote start it from a mile away (well… at least 30 yards away when I start it from my bedroom window anyway LOL). It’s like something in the system has to switch off before it’ll allow the lock to work. I’ll pay closer attention to it and see if I there are any other clues as to what the holdup is.

? Yep, I push only the button with the tip of my finger. It’s like push… nothing. Wait a sec… Push again… nothing. Then I *think* I hear something click somewhere in there (will pay closer attention). Push again… horn beeps, locks actuate… walk away.

I open the door to get out, press the door lock button on the inside of the door, close the door.
If I have passengers I wait until they're all out and then do it.
When the driver's door closes everything locks.

My 2020 acts the same way. I think it's waiting for a time for all the doors to be closed. It's just a few seconds so to me it's no big deal. I have to clip the phone back on my belt so I just do that before locking and it's ready for me to poke at it.

Mine (built in June '19) unlocks the doors when I simply pull the driver's door handle...don't touch the little button. As long as the FOB is nearby (my pocket?) it'll unlock as soon as I pull on the door handle.

Locking, I'm usually walking away when I push the button on the FOB and I hear the thunks of the locks engaging (I turned off the annoying 'beep' in the VIC) and see the running lights blinky blink.

I almost never use the door buttons to lock the vehicle as I'm getting out. Too scared of forgetting my FOB, etc. and having to call someone vs. walking home

that's one thing i like. even if the doors are open it locks. My other cars just beep annoyingly telling you a door is open.

Another really cool feature is, if you have the doors off , lock the the vehicle. It locks more than just the door. Even if the key fob is there, it will just say key not detected. Doors off and lock the vehicle will not start.

My Mazda did it, and the 2019 Subaru does it same as the Jeep.
I don't think I have ever had a vehicle that didn't, or one that beeps. That Subaru beeps at every damned thing too.

Yeah, I know that works - as stated in my OP. My past few vehicles have had proximity keys and I’m in the habit of locking by touching the handle (or simply walking away in the case of the Corvette I recently sold. Wish the JT would do that).

That’s probably exactly it. It’s usually not a problem when commuting because I have to take time to grab my backpack/computer out of the back when exiting the vehicle. By the time I do that, it’s ready to lock. Other times, when I just get out and am ready to walk away, I just have to wait a few seconds before pressing the button.
