Thanks for implanting torx bits and cat assholes into my subconscious.
I think we’ve found a new name for torx screws.

I recently had to spend a couple weeks driving a couple of regular cars after almost a year of Tesla ownership. It's simply annoying. You never realize how many dozens of friction points cars cause simply because they are outdated, old-think, and holding onto ancient skeuomorphs just because people are lazy and fearful. But then you drive something that eliminates that garbage and realize how cars SHOULD be in 2022. Keys are stupid.
Golly what did I miss lol. Hold onto ancient big words just because people are lazy but you want a car that self drives and does everything for you....hmmm

Like I said in what must be a deleted post...I'm all for convenience so long as it's actually 'you're car' and not connected to the hive by thin air where anyone, or any computer (ai), can take control at any time. If they come with that true disconnect then there's merit you may actually be able to own and operate 100% your very own electric car lol, if they don't disconnect from the hive then it was never really your car...yet you paid for it.

Bring back 100% ownership and control over our vehicles please, keys pretty much the occams razor solution ("the problem-solving principle that entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity"). RFID chips for push button connectivity, um don't we absorb enough waves already? Connectivity to other peoples computers etc. Bad idea for liability in piloting 2.5 tons of road missile. Who's actually liable with 'your' Tesla should you, or it, crash? How would you not be able to prove it wasn't jacked?

My life a little more valuable to me than handing over control of 2.5 tons of potential death to just anyone. Wanna run my entertainments system?...sure, risk level acceptable. ;)

You'll never even catch me inside a Tesla, show me the full disconnect feature then maybe. 100% ownership as well as care and control option please.

If you own any car made in the last 15 years or so, you’re being tracked. If you own a cell phone or computer, you’re being tracked. The single fact that you’re able to participate on this forum shows that you’re fine being tracked and monitored, since you have a device to access it. But key fobs are where you draw the line? I hope you’re old enough that you won’t soon need to make the choice between driving at all, and your fear of technology. Things change. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s progress.

Some how this thread has evolved into a cautionary tale of BIG BROTHER. The original poster just wanted to covert from Push Button Start to Key Ignition just to get rid of a bulge in his pocket.

Yep. The OP has a manual, and thinks it may be faster in a stall situation to restart it. And then several members went right towards the evils of electronics in modern vehicles. Forums, good information to be had, so I guess we have to live with the silly stuff.

I assume you do not run Windows or any Microsoft products, right? No google, Linux only? No Apple, no Android?

Right now my Acer chromebook can't receive any more updates, and soon there will be a time it will cease to function because Google will pull all support. My computer? Right, right.

There was a fellow who was saved some hefty fines and jail time, and worse, when his "black box" proved the speed, direction and positioning of his vehicle when another guy (guy2) claimed that fellow was responsible for an accident. Came to court and the fellow's insurance company had contacted GM for access to the little black box. Proved he wasn't at fault, guy2 lost. I wish I had saved that forum post as this was a person who hated the tech, claimed big brother and that he was being tracked for nefarious purposes and so on - after that same technology saved his butt, he changed his tune.

Also I'm kinda offended by the OP's comment about men don't use purses. I'm a man the last time I checked and I use a "Purse" aka small messenger bag. I got shit to carry man.

RELAX!!!

It's a joke.

Although I do use a messenger bag and I'm okay with people calling it a purse.

My laptop bag makes my wife’s purse look like a child’s wallet. :) and yet, I have everything I need when I get “there”. Sounds like a man purse to me. I even have keys in one of the pockets. :)

They are actually in style in some areas. You see a lot of men carrying such things in other countries.
They are popular in Japan - Japanese executives want their suits to look nice. A leather purse makes a young executive look more professional and gives a boyish look to some of the older ones.

You seem to think anyone actually cares where you go enough to track you. Big brother doesn’t give two blanks where you are. He watches interesting things. The bigger brother to the one you’re referring to is big data. The tracking that knows what you’ll likely buy if you see the ad. If you don’t want to be tracked, stop using every online search engine. If you end up someday with a car that has self driving capabilities, turn it off. Or don’t buy one. But just because technology is available, doesn’t mean you need to use it. No one is missing anything. And no one is oppressing you, except maybe you.

Negative ghost rider, thread started with more than that, still on topic, easy to find post #1. ;)

Thin air link to care and control over a 2.5 ton machine, couldn't have traveled further from occams razor than that, but we know how to solve problems with the most complicated solutions don't we, we often get it right the first time lol.

The fob is enormous and thanks to the aftermarket I no longer have that self defence weapon to carry around along with my other man gear. A couple little buttons in a tiny little case is all that's needed for that job. Big ole miss on Jeep's part. Be wary these comfort addicting conveniences we are being sold, we're getting very close to where they can be turned against us...very close. The QR code vaxx passport to be linked to your currency, social credit score, chip in the hand eventually, but those pumped for the comfort addicted conveniences don't want to see the long game behind this stuff, just keep pumping out 'adapt or die' 'this is the best ever'...ok then, nothing in the last 2 years to concern those with cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias...I didn't think so. Carry on.

Shows how far behind you are in your understanding of where this all leads, you think you're first. It's all under control though, all being exposed now, can't really miss it, unless you purposely choose to. Big brother has been playing a far bigger scope and longer game than you can wrap head around, it takes awhile to figure it all out. It's your journey to take though, been there, done that. Get to it whenever you'd like to be more prepared in a room...or not. ;)

Reading some of the issues of MT and stalling (although I think those should be pretty rare scenarios), my favorite implementation of push to start is the "Turn To Start" of my 2010 Miata. It's fully keyless, but has a plastic knob that you turn to start the vehicle.

It doesn't solve the bulkiness of the Jeep key but I myself like the feeling of turning the knob vs pressing a button while also never taking my keys out of my pocket.

Jeep Gladiator Delete push button start, go back to keyed ignition? The rfid brick has to go... 1643838362514
