I've been searching for a couple days and I haven't been able to find anything.

The photos on the 37" tires that fit under the gladiator thread show the tire hanging a couple inches under the hitch. I've read the hitch is an issue wheeling at times so I wanted to see if others are having issues hitting the larger spare as well? Anyone puncture the spare wheeling yet? Is that a thing?

I definitely would transition my 37 inch spare to the bed when doing any real crawling. The wide tire definitely hangs below the hitch by about 2.5-3 inches. I bought straps to secure it in the bed if needed.

No problems wheeling mine with the 37 under the bed. I do use a Sheridan hitch skid which is about as low as the tire sidewall. Drug it plenty of times but no damage to the tire.

I have thought about putting in the bed though during wheeling trips.

Agreed. I also have a Warfab Sheridan and a large 37 underneath. I wheel it very hard and haven’t even scratched the tire. The ones mounted on the Jeep take way more abuse rubbing past big rocks than the occasional rub on the spare.

What type of circumstance do you figure this would happen in that the rear tire would be off the obstacle and then it would catch the spare tire vs the hitch? I think it might be possible, but has anyone actually done it and on what? I'd say I've done my share of moderate wheeling as of late and that thought has never even cross my head.

I'd think the same possibility, let's say when clearing a small sized sharp boulder past the rear tire and on a turn, that boulder would land on the sidewall, any experience with this scenario?

Thanks for all the replies! I'm trying to decide which size tire to get. I figured if mounting it in the bed was inevitable, I would look at the 39" KM3's. If not, I would look at the 37's that fit under the back.

Anyone seen a spare mounted on top of an EVO Roof Rack?
