Good question. Here's a rough breakdown...

Casters - 2 sets@$39 each ~ $78
Latches - $11
Barrel bolts - $8
2x4s - 9@$3.65 each ~ $33
2x6s - 2@$5.95 each ~ $12

So somewhere around $142 or so.

The foam, screws, bolts and lags where all just stuff I had on hand.

Oh and I did snag a few extra bungees, so maybe add another $10 for those.
You might start with a couple HF movers dollies for the base and save a few bucks.

This is an amazing idea! I converted my garage into an addition for my house, and my shed is pretty full and behind the house a way on hills and grass. BUT, I could put something like this on my patio under my gazebo. Even still, I would have to roll it all over some grass to get it there. I am thinking I would need bigger wheels/tires to get the job done.

Do you think the casters would do well on grass?

thanks for sharing all of this detail!

I may have to build a version of this. :like:
I don't have a garage so finding a safe place for truck parts can be a challenge.

Great idea
This. I don't have a garage either, just a carport. But I do have a fenced in side yard. I was thinking of how I could hand stuff to the side of the house, but I like this idea better, then I could roll it all the way to the backyard.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I have bought several over the years - every time they are on sale. I figured the casters alone are worth $17 for a set of 4 casters (the movers cost me $17 each tops), but I was planning on using a couple of them for this purpose in any case. Then I saw these plans and figured they'd make good bases since I don't need to hold the roof - it will be hanging above.

Thank you for sharing your hard work with us. I have a friend who does woodworking as a hobby. He told me that if I ever need anything made to just let him know. He has already made a few things for me and other people so this is the perfect project to toss his way. I'm thinking of giving mine a nice stain rather than painting it.

Let us know how it turns out. I'd love to see how others evolve/improve the plans.

Many thanks. I could definitely roll the 4" casters on grass as long as the soil wasn't too wet. Carolina clay gets like concrete when it's dry.

I borrowed a good bit of my design from here. Check out his tire options which he used so it rolls on gravel.

I'm guessing that will be a bit less expensive than those beach wagon setups. Ouch! (though truth be told, if I could afford it, i'd dig that option)

Nope it was me. Dimensions now included...
Thanks so much for posting. I actually built the carts today...but one question for you...one cart has the (2) 10" pieces on top...the other (in your diagram) shows it also gets (2) 10" pieces...but the cut sheet shows (3) 10" pieces and (1) 9" piece. Are they all supposed to be 10" pieces? Or which one gets the 9" piece?

Thanks!
