Quality has definitely improved, but in many ways we are comparing apples to oranges. Overall complexity has increased exponentially over time. There is a massive difference in performance when we compare older vehicles to new ones. Longevity is only one factor when we discuss quality. Comparing a Jeep now to one from 25 years ago is frivolous. My '99 TJ sitting in my driveway has the engine everyone loves; 4.0 straight 6. Approximately 185 HP if I remember correctly. My smaller 3.6 today has about 100 more horsepower.

Comparisons on quality are only reasonable when you compare similar items. Compare a JT to a Taco, to a Frontier, to a Ranger, etc. How do they compare with quality? It's then you can get a more realistic answer on whether quality has improved or not. Comparisons should be made to contemporary items.

No engine issues with mine. Anything major on the 3.6 … I’ll be planning a trip to AMW😂.
I didn't even know what AMW was so I Googled it. Wow, an engine conversion that costs more than my Rubicon did brand new. NO THANK YOU. I could buy ten 3.6 long blocks for that price. I am surprised places like that can stay in business with such a minute market segment.

A rack of 3.6s doesn’t sound too desirable to me. 😆

True story: I bought a Harvest Gold fridge in about 1997, to put in the garage. I was driving home from work, and an apartment complex was getting remodeled. They had all the old appliances sitting in the parking lot for sale. I gave $50 dollars for it, and the thing lasted another 16 YEARS!
Same here. Bought a used GE in 1991. Sold it in 2019 and it was still running.

Mine was almost stolen twice. Once I caught them and they drove off. They had it running but hadn’t left the van. I didn’t even realize that I was pulling up on it till it happened. The second time was an attempted car jacking on the interstate. My Jeep had three bullet holes and I trashed the front bumper. I hit the 110 governor and had to pit them. Stolen Audi. I couldn’t out run it.

That started on 540 in Raleigh, which is a really nice city. That was back when everyone was stealing them to export them.

Yes. Jeep quality has always been spotty.

But I used to be able to call my dealer, get an appointment within a day or two. They would diagnose the problem the same day, order the parts overnight, and do the repairs under warranty without a hassle.

Now you need ten days to two weeks for an appointment. When you drop your vehicle off chances are the won't get to look it for another week. If you are lucky, they will diagnose the issue, order the parts and, depending on the issue, wait for warranty approval from HQ, and then two to four weeks to get the parts. If you are unlucky, they won't be able to diagnose anything which means you will need to repeat the entire process all over again.

These are not one-off stories; they are commonplace these days.

Chrysler knew its quality reputation wasn't the best, so it tried to compensate by covering the repairs under warranty without questions.

Stellantis still does not have a good quality reputation, yet now it drags its feet approving warranty work, getting replacement parts, allows dealers to treat customers like dirt, nickel-and-dimes customers on the loaners, etc.
This seems to be my experience. Brand new Jeep, doesn't work well. I was able to make an appointment for repair three and a half weeks from today. They said they'll put me in a long line of people waiting for a loaner car and hopefully by my appointment it would be available. 3rd dealership visit in the first 1,500 miles. If I could return it I would.

That's common around much of rural Iowa.

And if you figure out how to install 2 at a time you'll get close to the same power output. Although if you're talking the conversion that cost as much as a new gladiator you're into hellephant territory. Good luck mating 4 3.6L to a single transmission...

Actually, no, I was talking about the cheapest option. It's $32,000, 48 HOURS LABOR NOT INCLUDED. When you factor in their labor, it's more than I paid for my new Jeep.

There is a market and they do quite well. Ideally a factory option for a V8 would be ideal but that is discussed in many other threads.
