My excuse is kids are too small to take them out yet. I don't ever really plan on getting into rocks, but the plan is to use it as a dispersed camping vehicle. Currently trying to pick out a solid offroad trailer.

Waiting for it to freeze hard up here in Alaska again so I can go out to the glacier.

Portage glacier?

I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. Wheeling/offroading whatever you guys want to call it was routine in Alaska. Just getting to work in a snow storm was an adventure lol. I bought my JTRD to explore Arizona, Sedona, Flagstaff area. Can't wait to accumulate some priceless memories on the trails.

Location is my excuse. I bs around utility easements in the Houston area, but that’s about it. It’s a 4+ hour drive for me to anywhere worth adventuring unfortunately. It’s a big reason why I miss West Virginia and a pretty big reason I won’t be settling down in the Houston area.
We have some cool stuff down on the beach here but rock crawling and hills, not so much. Plenty of deep mud holes to get stuck in one hour south my friend.

Define wheeling? I like to explore remote areas with some obstacles, but I don't go out rock crawling on purpose. Hunting trails, forest roads and hidden gems are more my thing. Something like the Rubicon trail is a bit extreme for my taste, but I will say that I have gotten caught up in some nasty areas unintentionally.
Sounds like wheeling to me. IMHO

Wheeling is a relative term, but a sport in its factory form is impossible to wheel imo. Even after 33's and a coil swap, I find my self dragging on a lot of intro trails. Which is fine, but then you need to invest in some armor. On 35's and up, no other new truck competes with it without serious modifications.

Dragging oem plates, control arms, shock mounts, etc. and that's on oem skids with 33's. You'd do it way more with 31's. I have rock sliders, control arm skids, frame side skids, shock skids. And I've hit all of them.

Good thing they are designed for that.

Yep. I wheel, just not as active or in places where I use to.

I'm a SoCal transplant - so I normally wheeled Hammers/JV trails in my YJ crawler..

Factory skids will get you through easier offroad trails, which is probably 90% of what JT's see, but if you're doing challenging trails regularly you're going to want some reinforcements/armour.
