Speaking from experience with Cooper STTs at 13.5….. I will never buy a smaller width.

Both performance and looks if that is what you are wanting.

For tires for me it’s a formula of height, poke, suspension height chosen and width.

So yes …..1” does matter

The one inch width is going to make a bigger difference than the diameter. More likely to rub on fender flares, steering and suspension components, harder to turn, less traction per tread block, etc.

I'd stick with 12.5 unless you really have a reason you need to go wider.

So girth and not length is what's going to matter.

OK OK no comment form the peanut section! just kidding. 38x13.5x17 or 39x12.5x17. I didnt post price or make. Just asking on size choice and why.

If money isn't a concern, do it if you want! You won't gain much from it really, though. But if its what you want to do, definitely do it. You'll notice that extra width for sure, and some reduced fuel economy due to rolling resistance.
