I haven't had time to replace the door plugs yet. I've found some that I believe will do the job but don't want to order until I have the time to do the work. It does look like it will be a minimum of two plugs per door as the only plugs I've found that can handle all the different circuit amperages don't have enough conductors so I'm going to get a 24 pin for the low current stuff and a 6 pin for the high draw components.

My rear end has been ordered for a little over a month and is supposed to be in in about 2 weeks. Getting that handled required going to another dealer.

For what it's worth I'm with you. The connector is a bad design for something that should self align through multiple uses (outside of the factory). Door removal instructions start on page 27 of my owners manual, so unless I deviate from the instructions I don't see how some of the blame doesn't fall on FCA. Also, the wiring harness lever must give a little mechanical advantage on reassembly, so I'm calling bullshit on the "you should feel it if something is wrong" argument.

Unfortunately FCA doesn't see it that way. They're of the screw you mindset on this one. Doors were on and off my JK hundreds of times without issue but they went "fancy" on this new plug and turned it to crap. I'll get around to replacing them soon, just need work to settle down a bit first.

Thats just crazy. Due to the nature of the specs, the plug should be thought of as more of as something that should be constantly used. It should be considered like the door hinge or tailgate. They would replace those. Its the same thing since it is fully intened to be removed and reatached.

Dealer stated "outside influence" and according to the useless FCA rep their hands are tied at that point. No one will ever convince me I'm responsible for them not functioning correctly but if I want them to I have no choice but to deal with it on my own at this point. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay them to put the same faulty crap in again. Lesson learned, FCA is not a company that stands behind their product and if you want a reliable vehicle, look elsewhere. Since it's a toy I just have to suck it up.

When you get your new setup in place make sure to post it. I feel like you will not be the only one that will fall victim to this. I was driving one day and one of the plastic covers over the area with the plug flew out the door never to be found again.

Though if Bestop ever gets around to releasing core doors I doubt my stock doors will ever be used again.

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for our truck? It might be nice to know which pin(s) isn't engaging. Right now my mirrors don't work and the truck doesn't know when the driver's door is open.

Glad I read up on this. With the hurricane on the way I decided to put the doors back on today. I before I connected the plugs I twisted myself around to check the pins and sure enough the small outside pin on the passenger door was bent. I used a key to bend it back and everything seems to be working (knock on wood).

Really, it's hard to call it user error when the pins are recessed, upside down, and require the lever mechanism to engage. The back window is a much simpler connection, though with far fewer pins.

Though it got me thinking, is it bending them when you disconnect it? Doesn't seem possible for it to have already been bent before I put it back on otherwise.

Rear end was replaced yesterday. I suppose now the countdown begins to see when/if it happens again. I did notice this falls under the power train warranty so it's covered for 5/60 rather than 3/36 so that's good news if it's a recurring issue.

Drivers door ajar has 2 wires that sense door ajar. One is Violet and the other is Violet with a Beige tracer. I'd straighten that out before you check the wires for the mirror. Instead of looking for particular wires though, I'd look for bent pins in the connector itself. It sounds like you might have a couple.

I have had my JT for a little over 30 days. I have owned Jeep Wranglers before in the past. Never had any issues with the wiring harness on the doors.

First time taking the doors off on my JT, I put them back on and had a number of issues. After reading this post, I checked the driver's side door connector. The male end had several slightly bent pins. The attached picture is the female end. It appears to be very flimsy.

Someone else mentioned that there shouldn't be any reason the connectors don't align. The tabs line up and the lever is pulled down to engage both ends. I believe this is a design flaw.

That is really chewed up compared to mine. I only had one bent pin, though.

It's something that makes a relatively short process potentially painful. I love riding without the doors but it'll never be something I do for half a day because I want to minimize the number of times I put myself at risk of breaking it.

It's a flaw in the connector. On my driver side, the white internal piece on the male side extends to protect the pins and ensure it all aligns going back in.
On my passenger, not so. The white piece does not extend, leaving the pins fully exposed and thus capable of misaligning when plugging it back in.
Clearly a design fault or, at the very least, a defective connector. The latter is a warranty item since connectors are not excluded.

May be a reach but… What about arguing connector was manufactured slightly out of spec to allow misalignment.

Almost makes me want to get a sport with roll up windows and manual locks.
