Driving home this morning after getting linex done. Doing 45mph and all of a sudden BAM!! and its like someone boxed my ears, and I can hear wind. I was convinced my holstered gun fired. So I find a spot to pull over, no hole in seat, checked gun and unfired round in chamber, not a shell. Looked under to see if muffler had blown. I can't hear anything and am rattled so drive on and chase the air noise to front of top. Pull over and a greenish brown spatter is around small hole(3/16"). I remembered there are walnut trees in that stretch. The top has a plastic backing there and it didn't give. Damit

Called dealer, no patch kit that they know of from Mopar. Called Bestop and they don't either but gave me a number to BD Company. Called them 800 748-2244 and they have kits for all types of top fabric. $13.50 + $9 shipping.

Damn, sir...that truly sucks...very sorry to hear it.

Perhaps the aforementioned flex seal (or similar) tape on the inside with a spot of some type of glue on the outside? Perhaps you could smooth the glue out a bit as it's applied?

That sucks. If it makes you feel any better I completely tore apart my YJ, spent months prepping for paint, including rust removal, welding, dent removal, replacement fenders, sanding/priming, etc, inside and out. Get it shop painted and I smack a big ass deer head-on two or three days later, toasting the grille, hood, pass. fender and flair.

Unclear what actually happened. A walnut tree took a pot shot at you?

I think I would honestly patch it with and try and stretch the fabric over it a little

Bummer! Go to a canvas shop and they should be able to sew a small patch on there. Or but some canvas with adhesive on the back and tape it on both sides, inside and out.

Patch kit will be here next week. Had a chance to look to see how to get to the underside of top in that spot. The header plastic and clasp down clamps can be removed but concerned how hard it will be to put back as it seems the fabric is super tight there. Has anyone attempted that with an older wrangler or a JT by chance?

I'm confused... wouldn't this just be covered under warranty?

Now that's an idea...Just have the deductible to deal with...
It’s brand new, I’d absolutely claim it, get a new one, see how much they want for the old one...you may be able to make back your deductible by buying it and selling it.
