So, I have a dumb question about automatic transmission (in the context of my Gladiator) - Is it possible to move a car with auto transmission w/o turning on the engine? With manual, kick into neutral, release the parking brake, and off we go.

don't judge - ever since I got my drivers license, I've driven manuals refusing to buy anything with auto. With Gladiator, I wanted to max out towing capacity so (begrudgingly) went with the auto. The other night wanted to push the Gladiator a few inches (my garage is a tight fit - either walking space in front or in back, but not both) and couldn't figure out how to do it w/o starting the engine.

Thanks!

Hit start 2 times without brake so jeep is in run, then place vehicle into neutral ? Not sure if the auto park feature would stop you tho.

YES. In front of the shifter is a rectangular cover, about 4"x2". Pop the cover off and reach inside with your fingers and grab the orange coloured tether strap. Gently pull strap to the left until you hear a "click". ... Park is now not engaged. Have your emergency brake on. To re engage it, pull again to the left just a bit and release the pressure on the strap. It will go back down into place as before and you will now have Park engaged.

Come to think of it, I believe every auto car I've had would allow you to change the transmission gear with the key turned to ACC but not on. Need to go check my other one.

...and take off the brake.
No steering wheel lock.

Kevin
Yeah, they removed that lock years ago, something like 2013 or maybe before because of the flat towing needs of customers.

My RTFM moment - should've thought of it. Page 216:
- Automatic transmission in PARK
- Transfer case in (N) Neutral
What is this ā€œmanualā€ of which you speak? LOL - good tip
